Hiring Alert 🚨 You might find more established studios and agencies out there. We don't even have a free fruit bowl yet. But if you're up for a real challenge or looking for something different, we're now inviting people to apply for three key roles in our growing studio. We need a designer, a channel manager, and a creative consultant. Please don't hesitate to apply just because you lack experience or feel underqualified. While we'd love to see a portfolio for the designer role, the other positions are so unique that previous experience in the exact role is unlikely. We're not fixated on growth and acquiring clients just to meet a quota. Instead, we focus on partnering with the right clients—the ones we genuinely enjoy working with (some even bring us doughnuts). Holy coffee beans batman… Hello world. Yesterday I started writing about the position posted by Michael Klemmer at Aerial Resupply Coffee®. There were some great reactions. To include the fact that tons of people are applying for jobs in this economy and trying do what they can. I’m not a political or economic expert but having money and doing a job you enjoy at a company you like are certainly beneficial. My thoughts and questions today are regarding the brand of the company outside the actual product or service. Mr. Klemmer has created a veteran-owned coffee company which is difficult enough. He has also injected his humor, personality, and few illustrious “employees” into his social branding. My curiosity is how this helps an organization and effects when jobs are posted. Hypothetically, if 2 companies posted the exact same job would you care about company A that was straight forward with no personal touch or would you prefer company B that you could see who they were as a company and a team? Would the job applications be the same or different? Does personality matter, and if so, how much? My thought is that it is helpful to know the personalities within an organization in addition to the job itself. I think more companies should integrate some of who they really are in their job postings. You can have a great company and a dream position but if it’s not a fit for you and their personality it won’t work for long. What do you think? (The link below is from Mr. Klemmer. I’m going on a 2-week vacation 😍 But before I go, I wanted to reflect on my time at Magic Design. And give you a bit of a backstory. [This will be a long one 👇] Before joining, I was set on specialising in Performance Marketing at an agency. I’ve always been a generalist and felt like I had to specialise to succeed. And yet… when a job description for Magic Design popped up, I had to apply. Even though it was an even more generalist role than a Marketing Manager - the Founder's Associate role 😅 It sounded perfect, because I understood their mission instantly: “Empower every business with great design” 💜 Coming from startups where marketers were scrambling to do the design work themselves 99% of the time, I felt their mission deeply. Getting on-brand design assets done quickly is a HUGE pain for most marketers and founders. They have hundreds of ideas. The problem is in the execution. For most tasks, you need great design. But looking for freelancers for every task can get expensive and time-consuming. And hiring in-house is a huge commitment for many months, not a quick or easy solution. I was hooked on the idea of a design subscription service. It made so much sense to me. On my interview day, I was blown away by the co-founders’ maker mindset. I thought I was productive, but oh man, meeting Maximilian Fleitmann and Sina Sadegh humbled me hahah 😂 They're SO passionate about delivering impactful designs to founders and marketers. And this is what convinced me to join them. That, and the fact that they don’t hire to micromanage. They hire you to take ownership and drive ideas forward. As a new grad, this meant changing my mindset from waiting for approval to trusting myself, learning as I go, and figuring things out when I'm stuck. I’m growing and learning in this role more than I ever have. And I’m empowered to try, fail and try again. Excited for the journey and what comes next for Magic Design. I’ve been hiring a live-in editor for a creator. It’s insane. He is SO much more meticulous about this hire compared to hiring a remote editor or in office editor. When you’re hiring someone to live with you, you don’t just care about: - skills - experience - portfolio You also care about: - character - values - habits It highlights to me that there is more to a person than just their skill. Character matters too and I overlooked this myself until I was hiring people. So if you’re job hunting, don’t just focus on building your CV. Build your character too.
