Oregon’s hospitals have added 2,900 jobs this year, continuing a steady growth trend in the health care sector. This bright spot contrasts with statewide job growth, which has slowed in the past year. The information is part of an Oregon Employment Department report, which also shows 18,800 vacancies, including 1,600 open nursing positions. The data show that Oregon’s hospitals are vital sources of jobs, and that there’s still work ahead to grow the state’s health care workforce to fill those nurse vacancies.

Bedside nursing is tough. 😱 I have a bad day when there's a typo in my email... nurses have a bad day when their patient codes and they have to go through extreme graphic measures to LITERALLY save a life. They're SAINTS! I could truly never serve like they do. (mostly because I hate blood, hospitals, needles...) I digress... I know someone who is burned out from bedside nursing. She's looking to transition to a different type of role in the healthcare field, but the massive array of opportunity and direction is overwhelming. We've been using AI to sort possible options with a RN degree and assessing salaries that way too. Does anyone do recruiting for healthcare who can talk to my contact? Anyone know of a resource that could help guide her direction? Or anyone just want to connect with a fellow nurse who's burned out and struggling at the hospital? Not a marketing-related post, but I know LinkedIn will do its thing 🤗 TIA #nurse #healthcare #healthcarejobs #healthcarerecruiter #jobsearch #medicalcareers #medicaleducation

134 Applicants in 24 hours.... Did they read your job posting? Posting your urgent home health RN roles on a job board will only bring you an overflow of hundreds of potentially unqualified nurses. Most did NOT even read your entire job post. I call this the “Instant Apply Effect” where nurses who are unhappy with their current role apply to 15 positions at a time. But have you tried flipping this dynamic around? Instead of posting a single job description to get hundreds of resumes, you should identify a short list of solid RNs in your area, and CALL them! The most qualified nurses aren't actually looking for work at any given time, and won’t even see your job posts. Rather than spending 90% of your time scrolling through the dud resumes, you can spend 90% of your time setting up conversations with the nurses. You will have a higher chance of success! Trust me.......We know 😍

This week I was tagged in a post about opposing thoughts on the #nursestaffingcrisis, more specifically in the hospital setting. The 2 most common sides that I read and hear about are that there is either: 1. There are not enough nurses in the U.S. to fill all the hospital openings. 2. There are not enough nurses who are willing to work in current hospital conditions. I decided to do a very unscientific poll on IG to see what I would get in response. In 21 hours, 183 accounts voted, and this was the feedback. But in addition to this, there were some fantastic comments, one 🧵specifically by Patrick McMurray, MSN, RN. In his comments, he said: 💡 There is a shortage of nurses just not in the ways most people think. 💡 There is a shortage of experienced nurses for a healthy skills mix in units. 💡 There is a shortage of nurses with diverse background. 💡 There is a shortage of nurses who speak multiple languages. 💡 There is a shortage of nurses doing research. 💡 There is a shortage of nurse faculty. 💡 There is a shortage of nurses working in the community in the preventative health space. 💡 There is a shortage of nurses in rural communities. 💡There is a shortage of nurses in less affluent areas. I love social media polls because of this richness of side commentary. I appreciate Patrick and others who are so active in these conversations in spaces where nurses of all ages and backgrounds hang out online. I’m continuing this conversation today on the New Thing Nurse IG >> @newthingnurse What questions should I ask? What do you want to hear about? Or further, what do you want to share? #nursesonlinkedin #healthcareonlinkedin #staffing

Plenty of nurses apply for home health roles because it seems like it’ll be an easier job. A more manageable option than working a 12 hr night shift in an extremely busy ED. That makes me wonder....... Do you actually like the flexibility of the role or only seeing 4-5 patients a day? And let’s not forget to consider: **Driving from patient to patient **The abundance of documentation CMS requires **Adapting care plans to suit each unique setting Having been there myself during my RN career, I know exactly which questions to ask to find out if the RN is truly ready for a home health position. Home health companies need RN’s who are passionate about caring for the geriatric population in their homes and that’s what I specialize in providing. RN’s that understand the importance of documentations, teaching and education. To ensure the readmission rates are decreased by quality patient care. Being able to put the right RN in the right home health role is one of my favorite things about the work I do. Think about the feeling you get when your care brings a smile to someone's face. When you know you’ve made a real difference in someone’s day, maybe even their life. That’s what home health nursing is all about!
