The "Egg Babies" have arrived! Each dad enrolled in the parenting class at the Oregon State Penitentiary will receive an egg, a crocheted carrier for their egg baby, along with a Birth Certificate authorizing them to care for the egg and its carrier. The goal of the "Egg Babies" program is to give adults in custody the chance to care for something fragile, teaching them to be fully responsible for its safety, health, and well-being. This experience reinforces the dedication and effort needed to care for an infant. After a week with their egg babies, the eggs will be collected, and the dads move on to a teddy bear. #ODOC #DOC #OSP #Salem #Oregon #parenting #responsibility

The Strengthening Families framework and the five key Protective Factors significantly overlap with the HOPE framework and the four key types of positive childhood experiences (PCEs) we describe as the Four Building Blocks of HOPE. The Strengthening Families and HOPE frameworks can be used together to promote the healthy development and well-being of children, youth, parents, and families, and reduce risk factors. When parents are strong and supported in their Protective Factors, they can provide their children with positive childhood experiences. https://buff.ly/47f0FoI

Be Intentional About Child Protection and Safety This Holiday Season As we approach the holiday season, many families are preparing for vacations, camp meetings, and coaching sessions. It's a time of excitement and joy for children, but it also calls for heightened vigilance regarding their safety and protection. Child protection is everyone's responsibility. As professionals, parents, and guardians, we must ensure that robust policies and practices are in place wherever our children go. Ensure all organizations, camps, and summer programs have comprehensive child protection policies. Talk to your children about their activities, who they will be with, and what they should do if they feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Be aware of the signs of child abuse, educate yourself and others on how to recognize and respond to potential issues. Teach children about their rights, personal boundaries, and the importance of speaking up if something doesn't feel right. It's crucial to note that most of the intervention cases we've handled were perpetrated during holidays while children were left unsupervised, in one-on-one care, and on vacation. This underscores the importance of being particularly vigilant during these times. By being intentional and proactive, we can create safe environments where our children can thrive and enjoy their holidays without fear. #childprotection #childsafety #holidayseason #childadvocacy #preventhhildabusen #parentingtips #professionalresponsibility Ibiyemi's ink 🔏 worthywrites

***You are invited*** Hear presentations from leading researchers on how to advance organisational child-safe practices using contextual safeguarding strategies. Until now, prevention strategies have mainly focused on individuals, such as high-risk adults, and on risk factors associated with children. We need to extend the focus to include social contexts and settings in which abuse occurs. Contextual prevention aims to make these diverse contexts safer for children. Some contexts provide conditions that are conducive to child sexual abuse and pose greater risk than others. When those contextual conditions are altered, children’s safety can be strengthened. This symposium will be of interest to professionals working in child welfare, child protection, residential care, family services. If you are unable to attend, you can still register and receive a link to a recording of the symposium. HMYOI Werrington is a young offender institution near Stoke-on-Trent, which at the time of this inspection held just 89 boys aged between 15 and 18 – slightly under its capacity. Healthy establishment scores: 🔒 Safety: Poor ⚖ Care: Not sufficiently good 📚 Purposeful activity: Poor 📅 Resettlement: Reasonably good Points to note: 📄 Staff shortfalls hindered the regime and relationship development 📄 Safeguarding systems were in disarray 📄 Behaviour management was ineffective; use of force was too high 📄 Children spent far too long locked up 📄 Education, skills and work were poor. Notable positive practice: ✅ Alongside the usual provision, the chaplaincy provided a range of enrichment activities for the children, including current affairs discussion groups, arts and craft sessions, and film nights. ✅ The health care team produced films informing children about health issues such as vaccines and overdose awareness. Where possible, children were involved in production and could view the films on their laptops. This work had a measurable and positive outcome for children’s health care needs. ✅ Children serving long or indeterminate sentences were supported by a ‘Buddy’, an adult life-sentenced prisoner from HMP Warren Hill working towards their release, who discussed their experience of receiving lengthy custodial sentences in supervised video meetings to prompt children to reflect and possibly motivate them to engage and progress their sentence. 🔍 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/eXFSJuQ6

Child safeguarding in asylum processes is crucial, yet too many children end up in the adult system because of flawed age assessments. The Path Finder Network: Oregon Department of Corrections
3moThe Path Finder Network currently has two classes going on inside OSP. Dads in both classes have moved on from their Eggs to their Bears. Each Dad will carry their Bear for 7 weeks. At the end of the program the Dads who graduate will also be given a brand new Bear for each one of their kids. This is one of the most thought provoking, loving and positive programs taking place within DOC.
