How being authentic created the Flamboyan Theatre
New Episode - Chronicles of a Puerto Rican Visionary in Literature and Theater - Jon Marcantoni - Director of Flamboyan Theater
https://lnkd.in/d2wKxYHa
Host: Raul Lopez
Jon Marcantoni is a Puerto Rican novelist and playwright. The author of five books, he won the 2017 Independent Book Award for Best Southeastern Fiction for his book Kings of 7th Avenue. After the success of his play Puerto Rican Nocturne, about the Cerro Maravilla murders and their aftermath, he founded Flamboyan Theatre in 2022. The company produces new Puerto Rican plays and seeks to build a creative hub for Denver's Puerto Rican community to celebrate their culture and stories, while utilizing multimedia and multi-modal forms of performance for a 21st century theatrical experience.
Strap in for an episode that promises to enlighten and entertain, as Jon Marcantoni weaves a narrative that is as much about the triumphs and challenges of a Puerto Rican visionary as it is about the universal journey of finding one’s voice in a diverse and changing world.

I love this video not just because of how brilliant the dance and music is, but also because it so clearly illustrates the relationship between the footwork, the tabla (the North Indian classical percussion played by none other than the iconic #tabla master artist Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri), and the recitation (known as padhant) performed by #panditchitreshdas himself. #kathak is such a rich, fascinating and multi-layered art form!

I think this is probably our best offer for clients.
For a modest fee, arts organisations are able to join us to drive their inclusion and diversity work. As ever, we move beyond the obvious issues of unconscious bias etc. into the gritty topics which can prevent or advance organisational success. We cover 11 separate topics including:
· How to deliver inclusion on a budget
· Recruiting and hiring inclusively
· Engaging your Board
· Supporting your employee resource groups
· Exploring representation in audiences
Each organisation can bring 5 people which means collaboration. Collaboration within the organisation and across the cohort of organisations which take part in this programme.
Sessions are recorded for access purposes meaning people can dip into the learning when they are ready, or go back and check something.
Such great value.
Not for you, share with someone who it might benefit.

I want you to think about the concept of hospitality for a moment. The dynamic relationship between guests and hosts. Hospitality involves invitation and trust. It’s about building community where we collectively make meaning. Now, consider this concept in a prison setting.
At first glance, it may appear that prison is no place for hospitality. It may seem that there are no guests nor hosts. No invitation toward wholeness and meaning making. And yet, these concepts are part of the human experience. Where there are humans, there so shall be community.
This is what it can look like when the broader community reimagines corrections in partnership with forward thinking leaders. Restorative, safe, meaningful, and beautiful.
