Around March of 2024, a Beginner’s Spanish class was resurrected at TRCI. To participate, AICs must send a request to the TRCI Recreation Department asking to be added to the class. Class sizes are limited to 10 students, so the waiting list is quite long. Students meet once per week on Wednesday mornings for one hour. Going through the entire workbook will take around 20-25 weeks. OCE Laundry and Manufacturing has five team members currently enrolled in the Spanish class, and one of our Production Coordinators, Jose Castanon, has been helping these AICs by tutoring them throughout the week while they are at work. “As many of you know, learning a new language is challenging, especially when you don’t have anyone to practice with or to answer questions when they arise. To help with this, I’ve been supporting the AICs by boosting their confidence. I do this by answering their questions, breaking down complex words, and using those words in sentences that make sense to them. We are delighted to announce the launch of Ready to Revitalize, ELP's new online course in language revitalization! This 8-week course is designed for anyone who has an idea - or is seeking an idea - for a project to revitalize their language. The course will cover practical topics and ideas in language revitalization, such as building partnerships, finding funding, and different methods in language revitalization. This course will be for a small group of learners, working closely with the ELP Language Revitalization Mentors, building skills and knowledge and gaining hands-on experience in designing a revitalization project. 📅 Applications will open November 13. DGN’s Spanish on La Granja courses are virtual courses tailored to aiding in Spanish speaking on the dairy farm. Level 1️⃣: This level is a virtual 6-week short course, introducing Spanish on the dairy farm. This course closely mirrors a first year Spanish course, but with focus on dairy usage. A full understanding of the present tense and many vocabulary words will be presented, along with at least one past tense. Level 2️⃣: This level is an advanced, virtual 9-week crash course tailored to speaking Spanish on the dairy farm. Every major structure, tense and mood, plus a lot of work on usage and combined structures/tenses will be presented along with cementing concepts and vocabulary by building dairy-related connections.
