Kids are surrounded by architecture but awareness of the profession is almost nonexistent. For the small number of children who are aware it is because they are connected to someone in the profession. One of the easiest ways to introduce children to architecture is to point it out in their daily activities or family vacations. Architecture is present when they play games or dollhouses, build forts, watch their favorite TV show, or read their favorite picture book. Organize a fun, interactive session to define architecture with the kids. Use simple language, visuals, and hands-on activities. Point out buildings and spaces they have been to like the Indianapolis Artsgarden and tell them about the local architect (Walter S. Blackburn, FAIA) who designed the project. The outcome will be an awareness of architecture and an appreciation for the relevant connection to their lives.

When a leader celebrates his people, even as they leave the organization, it... - Reinforces a company culture where employees feel appreciated - Builds the company's employer brand, because if they treat people so well when they're leaving, imagine how they treat the people who don't - Raises employees' standards, so that when they look for new jobs, they look for employers who treat their people well - Serves notice to other employers about how people should be treated, raising the bar - Gets attention for the company, because so few leaders/companies do this Incidentally, I'd love to feature CEOs other than Jason McCann, but he's featuring prominently in my LinkedIn feed these days. Today is World Architecture Day – congratulations! Recently, I was asked: what is the mission of an architect? In my view, it is to create spaces that not only meet the needs of society but also embody an expressive artistic vision. Architectural objects go beyond mere utility—they become places where people live, where concerts are held, where children are educated. They shape the city’s silhouette, establish design codes, create focal points, and program the space. A crucial part of an architect’s mission is the ability to unite all project stakeholders, listen attentively, process information, and envision the future. Whether designing a single building or an entire neighborhood, the architect must balance the interests of active participants like urban communities, developers, and governments, alongside those who cannot voice their demands directly—such as the city and its context. These silent forces must be thoughtfully considered.

Culture and history shape so many aspects of architecture and design! More diversity in the industry leads to better projects, period.
