🚨 Important Weather Service Update 🚨 Due to a software problem, the NWS API Gridpoint Forecast Service will not be operational until January 1, 2024. As a result, certain sections of our weather pages, including hourly forecasts and current weather conditions, will be impacted. Please share this with others who might be affected. Stay tuned for more updates! #WeatherUpdate #ServiceOutage NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration

The NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration shared a year’s worth of forecast accuracy data with The Washington Post, who then analyzed the data. When looking at the National Weather Service’s daily high temperature forecasts, a forecast was deemed accurate when it was within 3 degrees Fahrenheit of the actual observed high temperature. Keep in mind that this analysis by The Washington Post only looks at NWS accuracy. At ForecastWatch, we provide a far more comprehensive look at forecasts from over two dozen forecasters. The NWS is often not the most accurate forecast provider when compared to commercial providers. This is the first time the government has shared this data publicly. Find out how they did in our latest blog post: https://vist.ly/3fuz3 #Weather #Wx #WeatherForecast #ForecastAccuracy #Data #DataAnalysis #NWS #WashingtonPost

Hey NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration I heard you guys have some recommendations from Congress that passed the house today. Here are some of the congressional mandates that Worldsphere.ai would love to help with. Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy But here's my number, so call me, maybe? We can help with: 1) The bill requires NOAA to establish programs that support weather forecasting technology, including improvements to radar accuracy, weather forecasting in underserved areas, and coastal flooding forecasting. 2) NOAA must also contract with the private sector to obtain weather-related data and establish a pilot program to test the compatibility of this data with NOAA infrastructure. 3) NOAA must improve weather-related communication systems, including those related to hazardous weather events, through system upgrades that use more modern technology (e.g., cloud-based services) and that allow for expanded coverage (e.g., in rural areas). 4) NOAA must administer programs that support weather forecasting for agricultural and water management, including pilot programs to improve precipitation forecasts in the western and central states and a soil moisture monitoring network.

When the official sources defy the official narrative... 1) Seeding or dispersing of any substance into clouds or fog, to alter drop size distribution, produce ice crystals or coagulation of droplets, alter the development of hail or lightning, or influence in any way the natural development cycle of clouds or their environment; 2) Using fires or heat sources to influence convective circulation or to evaporate fog; 3) Modifying the solar radiation exchange of the earth or clouds, through the release of gases, dusts, liquids, or aerosols into the atmosphere; 4) Modifying the characteristics of land or water surfaces by dusting or treating with powders, liquid sprays, dyes, or other materials; 5) Releasing electrically charged or radioactive particles, or ions, into the atmosphere; 6) Applying shock waves, sonic energy sources, or other explosive or acoustic sources to the atmosphere; 7) Using aircraft propeller downwash, jet wash, or other sources of artificial wind generation; Using lasers or other sources of electromagnetic radiation; 9) orOther activities undertaken with the intent to modify the weather or climate, including solar radiation management activities and experiments https://lnkd.in/g4fRMAW9

𝓦𝓸𝓻𝓭 𝓸𝓯 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓦𝓮𝓮𝓴 📖 Good evening, everyone 🌙 Word of the Week, 𝐑𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐠 Radiation fog is a type of fog that forms at night when the ground cools rapidly, causing the air just above the ground to cool to its dew point temperature. This results in the condensation of water vapor into tiny water droplets, forming a dense fog close to the ground. Radiation fog can have a significant impact on the atmospheric electrical field near the surface. Studies have shown that the increased concentration of fog droplets can decrease the mobility of electrical charges, leading to a substantial increase in the potential gradient (up to 400-650 V/m) compared to fair weather conditions. Radiation fog can severely reduce visibility, which can be hazardous for transportation, especially for aviation and road travel. The fog can persist until the sun warms the ground and air, causing the fog to dissipate. While radiation fog can have negative impacts on visibility and transportation, it can also have some positive effects, such as providing moisture for plants and replenishing groundwater supplies in arid regions. As we navigate this summer, NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration’s prediction of a hot and wet season brings critical considerations for our stakeholders in the SERC Reliability Corporation region. High electricity demand and vegetation growth will pose challenges for utility operations. Utilities in our area need to ensure we have resources to serve the load, prepare their vegetation management programs, and check equipment and test procedures to ensure reliability and safety. By being proactive, we can meet these challenges head-on. #LeadWithPurpose

Starting to see some "Is summer over?" comments on the heels of the recent NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration CPC forecasts (https://lnkd.in/gfvRUiC9). FWIW the Chicago August contract has been trading around 300 CDDs (orange line), which you can see is around the 10-year average and well above the longer term means. Note: 1981-2010 Climo is 236 CDDs...way cooler than market normals! Remember, the CPC maps are probabilities of deviation from normal - not temperature anomalies. If the weather market produced the same maps using market trading levels vs. 1981-2010 Climo, they would ALWAYS be red, even outside the forecast period! #weatherrisk #climaterisk #parametricinsurance
