The startling fact(s) around current day inactivity is one of the many reasons I finally started my CPT certification journey. Everyone has the power to help at least one person boost their activity one day at a time. We all have to pitch in.

Is the metric of 150 minutes of moderate-intensity—or 75 minutes of vigorous—exercise a scientific metric? Or is it like the one of walking 10,000 steps, that was more a marketing decision? I aim at the 150 minutes metric, because it's set by default in my Garmin (and I feel great when I surpass it 😊), but I wonder if it's really the objective we should go for. In any case, there's no doubt that movement is beneficial for our health. You don't have to run a marathon, just be active.

The most important data point in this post for fitness brands is that inactivity is on the rise. Your biggest competitor isn't another brand in your space, it's lifestyle. Getting your audience's attention, and showing why they care about your product won't get easier. Get that dialed in asap.

Many people are not exercising due to various factors such as lifestyle changes, urbanization, and the increasing availability of sedentary entertainment options. At the same time, I wish the WHO would focus more on the food crisis and what people put into their bodies that causes "physical inactivity."

I felt the Pixar movie "Wall-E" perfectly encapsulated where we are going as a species.

I believe there needs to be serious rebranding around healthy food. Not burgers made in a lab, but good old fashioned, grown in the soil veggies and fruits. And they need to be widely and easily accessible AND inexpensive. Supporting nourishment as fuel for activity as a critical first step towards improved health.

If you look at the fact that you would only need 6min of higher intensity walking to decrease your all cause mortality by 50%, then this is really even more unbelievable.
