After her honorable discharge from the Army, Crystal Simms settled in Hope Mills, NC, with her daughter and niece. When her HVAC system failed in 2020, the family endured two years without proper heating and cooling, unable to afford the $10,000 replacement cost. As a disabled veteran and unemployed at the time, Crystal reached out to various organizations for assistance. Through her research, she discovered Operation Homefront’s Critical Financial Assistance program. Thanks to the generous support of donors, Crystal was able to install a new HVAC system, bringing much-needed relief to her family. Crystal, who served 11 years and deployed five times to Iraq and Afghanistan, is deeply grateful for the support that helped keep her family safe and comfortable. Sr Advocacy Advisor, Peer Support Specialist, Veteran Outreach @ Coalition to Salute America's Heroes | Advocating for Veterans' Well-being
Good afternoon, LinkedIn Community! Have you heard of Peer Support Programs for Service Members? Let’s discuss what this term, Peer Support Program, means to you specifically. As we, Coalition to Salute America's Heroes, strive to improve the support systems in place for our Service Members, I am interested in hearing your thoughts on any gaps in services that exist, the different mental/behavioral health challenges faced, whether there is still a stigma surrounding mental/behavioral health, and if there are enough or too many resources available. By sharing our experiences and insights, we can work towards improving the support systems in place for our Service Members. I believe that together, we can provide the necessary resources and support that make a true difference to those who need it most. Thank you in advance for your contributions to this important conversation. David W. As we observe another Red Friday, let's not only wear red but also reflect on the profound impact of our military service members and their families. Today, I'd like to share some statistics that highlight the significance of their sacrifices and the importance of our support. Deployment Statistics: Approximately 1.3 million U.S. service members have been deployed since 9/11. This includes over 700,000 deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan alone. Mental Health Impact: The stress of deployment affects not just the service members but also their families. Studies show that military families experience higher rates of stress, anxiety, and depression compared to civilian families. Support Matters: The simple act of wearing red on Fridays has been shown to boost morale among deployed service members. It serves as a tangible reminder of the support they receive from home. This #RedFriday, let's not only wear red but also engage in meaningful ways to support our troops and veterans. Consider reaching out to community organizations and show your support, whether through donations, volunteering, or spreading awareness. We can make a significant difference in the lives of those who serve and their families. #RememberEveryoneDeployed #REDfriday #SupportOurTroops #Gratitude #Veteran #SupportOurVeterans

Are you a military veteran living in or around Lewiston, Idaho? You are not alone, and there are so many resources available for help. Here is a list of some resources available to veterans in or around the Lewiston region. Please let me know if I can expand this list. There's a program called Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) that can help with rent assistance, utility assistance, rapid rehousing of homeless veterans, gas vouchers, and up to $1,200 in automotive repairs. They will also help with legal assistance, such as evictions or debt collection, child support, and a few other things. That's just some of the services they offer. SSVF grantees vary depending on location. The Blue Mountain Action Council out of Walla Walla is an amazing group that serves a few regionally nearby communities. Community Action Partnership of Lewiston is an SSFV grantee and case management location. https://lnkd.in/gyvmWAvG The Salvation Army in Lewiston also has a Veterans Services program, accessible via the link below, or by calling the local Salvation Army. https://lnkd.in/gFvqVZqr Again, you are not alone, and if you're in need of help, that's perfectly okay. Times are hard for everyone. As a community we have to love compassionately and help our neighbors. Additionally, calling 211 will give you an option for Veteran services. I highly recommend starting with contacting your local VA representative or advocate. They will be able to better help you navigate potential resources, and find more that I don't know about. #military #veteran #socialservices #communityresources #public #gethelp #veterancrisis #crisismanagement #billassistance #legalhelp #lewiston #idaho #lewistonidaho #clarkston #va #help #publichealth #lcvalley

While most #Veterans transition smoothly into civilian life, some face service-related challenges that expand the federal governments capacity to address. For those of us in the #VeteranSpace, the need often feels, unending. Consequently, communities, often unfamiliar with #military needs, must support these Veterans. Well intentioned people across #nonprofits, #government, and #CharitableOrganizations, assume what a Veteran needs, and often duplicate services or put resources into solving a problem that doesn't exist. At Veterans Bridge Home, collective impact, remains at the forefront of our mission. Using technology systems like Unite Us with our community partners like Mecklenburg County, North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, and The Jeff Cohen Charitable Foundation allows for us to provide wrap around services across the social determinates of health. Even better? We can document those instances to demonstrate what #CharlotteVeterans greatest needs currently are and target our efforts on ensuring those partnerships remain strong. #VeteransBridgeHome #BeTheBridge

APOD makes a difference to the well-being of military families in Australia.🎖️👨👩👧🏠 Over the past four years, we have now delivered over $55.5M in savings back to military families, and this is a collaborative saving, where your own money has been stretched further. Paul Broadbridge, APOD CEO, stated, “At APOD, we understand the unique challenges faced by military families. Our mission is to ease their financial burdens by providing meaningful discounts that stretch budgets further. The $55.5 million in savings we’ve delivered over the past four years is a testament to our commitment to improving the wellbeing of our defence community. Together, with the support of our partners, we can continue to make a real difference in the lives of those who have sacrificed so much for our country.” 🇦🇺🪖 #FinancialWellbeing is essential for military families in Australia, and discounts are a direct contributor to this wellbeing. They provide a buffer against the uncertainties of military life, reduce stress, and help mitigate risks associated with veteran suicide, domestic violence, and homelessness. We are proud to see that APOD has contributed conservatively $55.5 million back to veteran families, and we look forward to seeing this increase exponentially as we work with our community and retail business partners. 😊 Please visit our blog to learn more: https://lnkd.in/g7xzF9Xb #apodcommunity #veteranbenefits #defencediscounts 📸: Defence Media

One of the ways we're #HelpingWomenNow: through our newly created Military Women's Patient Relief Fund! Military women are up to 40% more likely to develop breast cancer than civilians, and 700 veterans are diagnosed with breast cancer each year through Veterans Affairs Health Care alone. Through this fund, eligible service members and veterans will receive financial support to help with financial barriers to care, such as: 💗 Transportation and childcare costs during treatment 💗 Housing and rent costs due to lack of income 💗 Groceries to prevent food insecurity 💗 Expensive prescription co-pays or underinsured treatment costs Learn more: nbcf.org/military

Children's sense of belonging and agency is supported when they see their lives reflected in storybooks. Being part of a military, Veteran, and First Responder families can be tough if their parents have a moral injury. It impacts affect the whole family, and children are often silent sufferers. Research-based storybooks using family narratives give voice to their experiences and support children's understandings. Our resources are free because many organisations donate their time, and cash funding from The Association of Graduates in Early Childhood Studies. #moralinjury #freeresources #support #mentalhealthsupport #wellbeing #childrenswellbeing #childrensvoice #childrensbooks #childrensliterature #marginalizedcommunities #researchtranslation #knowledgesharing #researchimpact Manna Institute University of New England (AU) CIPSRT-ICRTSP CIMVHR - Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research Military and Emergency Services Health Australia CQUniversity #veteransupport #firstresponders
