🍍 The Pineapple Principle 🍍 Q: What makes up wine? A: Grapes, mostly. Q: Can you get Merlot out of a Pineapple? A: No. Q: Can the greatest fanciest most talented winemaker in the world get Merlot out of a Pineapple? A: No. Q: Why not? A: Because Merlot is made out of grapes. Often we judge our proverbial winemaking skills by our ability to get Merlot out of Pineapples. We judge ourselves unlovable when we pick people who are incapable of loving. We judge ourselves unworthy when we pick redemption projects that are unattainable. We judge ourselves less-than when we pick metrics of achievement that are out of alignment with our real values. Beware the Pineapples. They're everywhere. And they'll make you doubt your winemaking skills. #anxiety #worklifebalance #womenentreprenuers #mentalhealth

Areni Co-Founder and Executive Director Pauline Vicard recently visited Georgia and had the opportunity to expore the world of Qvevris. Some takeaways: Qvevris are an interesting winemaking vessels that have the capacity to build complexity in wine: - Temperatures are not controlled during winemaking and will vary significantly during the process. This is said to contribute complexity and depth. - The pointy shape of the qvevris is important: Pips sink to the pointy end and are covered by lees, and stems. Lees protect the pips from being broken down by alcohol, preventing bitterness. - The large shoulder of the qvevris mean that the cap will be thinner and wider, with skins well distributed - It’s important to have healthy grapes and ripe stems because there is no intervention from the winemaker during a long and complex process. Imperfections will be amplified. - It’s also important to have high quality qvevris to advoid oxidation These interesting vessels can be tricky to get right – but they have the capacity to contribute complexity to a wine. A very insightful experience (and, also: spot the cute dog...)

I recently found myself engrossed in a documentary about winemaking, and let me tell you, it was more than just a lesson on grapes and fermentation. The winery owner passionately explained how the location where grapes are planted affects the wine’s attributes. Grapes grown in rocky soil might give the wine a mineral quality, while those from sun-drenched vineyards produce bolder flavors. As I sipped on my own glass of vino, I couldn't help but think about how we humans aren’t so different from these grapes. Just like wine vintages, we too are a product of where we plant ourselves. Our environment shapes us in profound ways, influencing our characteristics, strengths, and even the subtle notes of our personality that manifest in everyday life. Whether we find ourselves in supportive communities or toxic terrains, these surroundings impact how we grow and develop. If you’re feeling a bit tart or overwhelmed, it might be time to check your soil. Are you planted in a place that nourishes you or one that drains you? So, here’s a vintage tip: Choose your soil wisely. Surround yourself with people and environments that bring out your best qualities. Just as a fine wine becomes better with the right terroir, you too will flourish in the right conditions. Don’t be afraid to uproot and replant yourself if needed. After all, life is too short to settle for anything less than the richness you deserve. Cheers to finding the perfect soil! #PlantYourselfWell #LifeVintage #ChooseYourSoil #GrowthMindset #LivingYourBestLife #mirandism #unapologetic #unapologeticdude
