Apple’s backout from microLED technology has shifted focus back to OLED tech. We do see ultimately this shift to go to microLED & QLED from OLED but not unless certain drawbacks such as high cost of transparent and quantum dot display technologies, low flexible display durability are removed. Shifts from LCD to LED then from LED to OLED were revolutionary. Whether such trend continues in the future from OLED to microLED, QLED and miniLED only time will tell. [Korean display makers show off next-gen OLED technologies at SID event] 삼성디스플레이 and LG Display presented the next-generation organic light-emitting diodes and Quantum dot panel technologies at this year’s Display Week 2024 in the US. Samsung introduced the industry's first quantum dot light-emitting diode display, the next-generation self-luminous technology, at SID Display Week 2024. The event, hosted by the Society for Information Display, kicked off Tuesday in San Jose, California, and runs until Thursday. The new technology implements RGB pixels with only ultra-fine semiconductor particles called quantum dots. While current QD-OLEDs emit light through a QD emitting layer as blue OLED light passes through, the QD-LED panel directly emits light from the QD RBG pixels, without OLED, Samsung explained. The display maker also showcased glasses-free three-dimensional technology, which automatically switches between 2D and 3D depending on the user's gaze. According to Samsung, the eye-tracking Light Field Display allows users to perceive depth by presenting different images to the left and right eyes. OLED burn-in could soon be a thing of the past thanks to innovative blue LED technique

A report by Ars Technica says that QDEL technoloy, short for 'quantum dot electroluminescent', is being viewed as the next landmark display technology after OLED. 📺 QDEL will most impact TVs and PC displays. If commercialised and mass-produced, QDEL can have a cost-to-performance ratio better than that of OLED, but it would still struggle to compete with LCD-LED on a cost basis. QDEL uses a layer of quantum dots sandwiched between an anode and cathode to facilitates the flow of electricity into the quantum dots. QDEL displays have pixels made of a red quantum dot subpixel, green quantum dot subpixel, and—differing from today's QLED and QD-OLED displays—blue quantum dot subpixel.
