Connecting the best talent in the renewable energy sector with market leaders in renewable energy development, engineering & interconnection.
"McKinsey estimates that the global installed capacity of solar and onshore and offshore wind projects will have quadrupled from 2021 to 2030" According to Mckinsey the next 6 years will see the renewable energy industry struggling massively to recruit & retain enough skilled blue & white collar workers, with the industry needing to find an additional 2.8 million energy professionals. How are companies going to overcome this hurdle & ensure that they can continue to attract talent in such a competitive industry? Structured & consistent training - To attract and retain workers, employers should go beyond wages and use training programs that focus on clear, long-term career path development. This can apply particularly to roles that are temporary. Individuals who begin constructing solar plants in the coming years, for instance, could spend their entire careers doing this type of work, depending on the size of build-out. A growing answer is to attract young & promising talent and keep them for the long term. Employers are investing heavily in building appealing brand images aimed at intriguing the younger generation throughout school and college. Monetary incentives like equity & LTIPs are then commonly used to retain these individuals and often combined with generous PTO, remote working schemes and increasing parental leave. "Hiring by acquiring" is also becoming a more common tactic. When large, cash rich companies are seeking to build out a specific function, it is often easier to purchase a company already completing said function, than it is to build it out from scratch. Finally, companies need to see the potential of transferrable skills. Particular skillsets (Eg Project Management) can be utilized in the renewable energy industry fairly easily, especially when an induvial is already working in another engineering sector. Given the growth ambitions of the renewables sector, attracting and retaining much-needed workers is crucial. Companies in this sector need to be ahead in the talent game to succeed.
