2023 was a year of records highs: it was the hottest year on record, record sea surface temperatures and sea level rise, and record low Antarctic sea ice. At this point, those of us privileged enough to have been unable to imagine what climate change looks like up close and personal now likely have several examples to point to. Our future, though, is being written now. These visual projections by Climate Central, Inc., contextualized by Outrage + Optimism, further illustrate a 2070 where we reduce carbon pollution in line with the 1.5 degree Celsius target, and the world in 2070 in which we carry on business as usual. Join us in co-creating a world in which our communities and environment can thrive. #ClimateChange #OutrageandOptimism #ClimateCentral #ClimateAction #ClimateOptimism
With our actions this decade, this year, TODAY, we are choosing not just our own future, but the future of generations to come. We can still choose breathable air, clean water, green cities and abundant systems but the time to act is now. 📖 If you haven’t yet read The Future We Choose by Christiana Figueres and Tom Rivett-Carnac it’s a brilliant vision of the world we could co-create and a handbook for how to get there. 🌅 Visual projections from Climate Central, Inc.

Brought to you by Adam McKay and colleagues... "Yellow Dot is proud to announce we have finished production of the first test episode of The Climate Report - a fully dedicated bi-weekly climate news show. We're releasing it next week. As the climate warms at an increasingly dangerous rate, people need to be informed; for our safety, and so we can be part of the massive collective effort required of this singular moment. What if media reported this story like it should be? Let's find out! Due to billions in fossil fuel ads and political spending, the majority of news outlets have not given people vital climate information. Only 1% of stories on network news cover the climate emergency! We need to change that. This is a new kind of news show for the new world we’re now living in. But it only works if it’s useful, and people see it. So we want to hear from you: What do you want to see from climate news? Let us know in the comments." https://lnkd.in/eN8gQPUT

Summer solstice is upon us, time to #showyourstripes. What are the stripes? No words. No numbers. Just a series of vertical coloured bars, showing the progressive heating of our planet in a single, striking image. The climate stripes were created by Professor Ed Hawkins at University of Reading in 2018. Those are the climate stripes in Aberdeen, Scotland. 🌎 How is it where you live? https://lnkd.in/egr-z3yK #climatechange #energytransition

You might have heard projections of future climate such as "sea level around Long Island is expected to rise by 1 - 6 feet by the end of this century" or "New York State can expect more winter precipitation falling as rain instead of snow by the year 2100." How do scientists arrive at these projections? You can now read and learn about this on Earth@Home, in a new section about climate modeling written by PRI Research Associate Ben Brown-Steiner: https://lnkd.in/ecMHCSpw

Multiple-choice quiz! Why are we speaking for the trees? A) They're busy sequestering 30% of our atmospheric carbon and aren't able to take calls right now. B) Have you ever been on a walk through a forest? Native forests are a shovel-ready climate strategy, but they're also an amazing part of living on Planet Earth, and we want more of those. We hope you do, too! C) We know the difference between low-quality and high-quality carbon projects, and we want you to know what a good one looks like. And also what a bad one looks like. So you can choose a good one. (Because you wouldn't believe how much time we spend on this part.) D) All of the above. Spoiler: It's D. Get started today with our essay series featuring top voices in reforestation! https://refore.st/3UuYlFy

Everything is connected, as James Burke told us towards its documentaries: Economy, history, technology, climatic refugees, globalization, greenhouse effect, global warming, asian increase of industrialization, fossil fuels, carbon rights, slowing AMOC, etc. And now, after decades, we are seeing that a prospective documentary produced on1989, starring by James Burke who suposedly talks from year 2050, is describing the present moment including the thermohialine AMOC stream slowing.

Forest carbon markets are creating new opportunities for landowners to finance climate action, improve forest health and resilience, and support life on earth. I’ll be speaking about this and other exciting developments in natural climate solutions next week at the @IETA North America Climate Summit. Our panel includes Peter Ellis, Jason Gibson, Mary Grady, and Brad Kahn. Hope to see you there! #forestcarbon #carboncredits #ClimateAction #NACS2024
