There’s no justice on stolen land. There’s no freedom for Indigenous people to fully live as ourselves on our ancestral lands without the intrusion of settler systems dictating our daily lives and committing continued violence against us— erasing our histories and lived experiences, disappearing our women, girls and Two Spirit relatives, overcriminalization and incarceration of our People, extraction from our lands, encroachment on the sovereignty of our Nations. So today, we’re calling out the lies. Today is not a day of independence for us, but a reminder to keep fighting. We continue to organize, mobilize, and fight for our dignity, for our lands, for our personal and collective self-determination, and for TRUE justice for all people and the planet— not just for the privileged and the few. Let today stoke that fire within you to keep fighting for our true liberation, for our Lands, our Bodies, and our People. It’s good to see Australia's efforts to tackle modern slavery ranked as Tier One - one of only 33 countries to achieve this status in the US Department of State 2024 Trafficking in Persons Report. The recent establishment of Australia’s first Anti-Slavery Commissioner played a significant role in earning this recognition.  The Commissioner is a very welcome beginning to strengthening Australia’s response to tackling modern slavery, but much more remains to be done, and investors and business both have a significant role in upholding human rights and identifying and remediating modern slavery where ever it happens. #modernslavery https://lnkd.in/gXJ6-pvZ

Reflecting on Recent Events: The Importance of Democracy and Peaceful Coexistence The recent attempted assassination attempt on former President Trump is deeply concerning and reminds us of the importance of upholding democracy and promoting peaceful discourse in our society. Regardless of political affiliation, violence has no place in our democratic process. It's a stark reminder that we must strive for unity and understanding, even amidst differing viewpoints. As professionals and citizens, it's our responsibility to engage in respectful dialogue and uphold the principles of democracy that form the foundation of our society. Now more than ever, we need to emphasize the power of peaceful coexistence and mutual respect. We must work towards bridging divides and finding common ground, fostering an environment where differences are addressed through dialogue, not violence. As America pauses today to celebrate Juneteenth a day that marks the landing of Federal Troops at Galveston within the great state of Texas to take control and ensure all enslaved people be rightfully freed I would like us to equally remember that we continue to have a great deal of work remaining even 161 years later. There are many efforts and champions of DEI efforts within government, academia, and business and I applaud their work. However, I stand firm in my assertion that as a society we have not achieved the goal of ensuring all enslaved people be rightly freed. These efforts must be continued, they must be discussed, and absolutely actioned. We pushed the disgusting act of human slavery from accepted and open observance to the shadows. Today in our society and globally the human slave trade remains a fully functioning system, with an estimated 46-50 million enslaved people in 2024, often targeting the most vulnerable of DEI populations. Sometimes these activities take place right in front of us with the support of both the witting and unwitting. As a society we must better educate each other on the signs of human trafficking which feeds the slavery process. We must understand when we might interact with events traffickers target for profit. We must be willing to report it when suspected. And we must all continue the assignment that our great leader gave to us 161 years ago to ensure all enslaved people be rightfully freed.
