The best time to find a job after college is when you start college. At CPP, we’re here to make that process a bit easier. Cherrie Peters, lead career coach at the Career Center on campus, has helped all kinds of students at various stages in their college careers. She advises students to be proactive and to utilize all the resources CPP has to offer: scholarships, micro-internships, alumni mentors, and the Career Center. The most important piece of advice she offers is to start early. “Career planning really is a process — a process of elimination, getting to know what they value and what is important to them. It’s about making themselves career ready. Students know themselves best, so they have to create career readiness for themselves first.” - Cherrie Peters Read more about CPP’s Career Center: https://bit.ly/47GSy2N Register for the Spring Career Fair happening on March 1: https://bit.ly/3OK8kTX

Did you spot us at The UK Careers Fair last week in Nottingham? With a busy month of HE/Careers fairs coming up, we're very much looking forward to meeting students across the country to chat to them about all that Staffordshire University has to offer. We recognise that busy HE/Careers fairs can sometimes feel overwhelming, so here are some top tips for making the most out of the events... ✏️Ahead of the event, find out who will be attending and highlight the institutions you definitely want to go and speak to ✏️When you first arrive, don't rush, take time to settle and get a feel for the event. Once you feel ready, start approaching stands to find out more about what they have to offer ✏️Remember, the people behind the stands are friendly and always happy to chat ✏️Have some pre-prepared questions and consider what is important to you (you can take a look at some examples below) ✏️Make the most of the opportunity and don't leave once you've spoken to the institutions on your list, keep an eye out for others that might interest you as you might discover the perfect university that you hadn't considered before ✏️ Don't forget to take a bag to put any prospectuses, guides and freebies in, they will help you remember who you've spoken to once you return home from the fair 5 questions to ask a university at a HE/Careers Fair: 1) Where is the university based and how many campuses do they have? 2) Do they have any Open Days or events coming up? 3) What facilities are available for the course you are looking to study? 4) Is it a city or campus university? 5) What is the accommodation like and how much does it cost? + you could also ask about finance, student life, societies and much more!

National Youth Careers Fair takeways It's wonderful to see my fellow young people engaging with such events and gaining valuable perspectives. My takeaways from key speakers yesterday ✅ 1. Pilato Wisdom: - "Your today, if not properly handled, can impair your future." - This emphasizes the importance of making wise choices and taking responsibility for our actions in the present. Our decisions today shape our path forward. 2. Daniel Kabani Advice: - "Be the youth in the arena, not the critic." - Rather than being a passive observer or critic, actively participate and take risks. Engage in meaningful endeavors, learn, and grow. Success comes from being in the arena, not from mere criticism. 3. Lyapa Mpempulwa-Mbewe 's Insight: - "Wealth creation favors the young." - This highlights the potential for young individuals to create wealth through their efforts, innovation, and hard work. It's a reminder that youth is a time of opportunity. Remember, each day's consistent efforts contribute to your growth and future success. Keep striving, learning, and being the best version of yourself! 🌟 Resilient Asset Bridging the gaps.

Engineering Manager | Expert in Product Development & Management | Innovator in Construction Machinery | Leader in Team Development and Operational Efficiency
21st Feb, 2024 marked my inaugural representation of Zoomlion N. A. at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee career fair. The atmosphere was reminiscent of my own school days, with the excitement of being on a university campus and engaging with ambitious students. Observing students navigate through company booths filled me with enthusiasm. Their eagerness and aspirations for the future were truly captivating. Each student’s distinct personality shone through in their interactions with company representatives, reflecting a promising future fueled by diverse skill sets and an unwavering drive for progress. The curiosity and inquisitiveness I witnessed affirmed my belief that the upcoming generation is well-equipped to face the challenges that lie ahead. It’s reassuring to see that educational institutions are fostering a mindset of exploration and preparation for the complexities of the professional world. Despite my cautious optimism, I hope their confidence is not merely superficial, and I maintain a positive outlook on the future. Accompanying an alumnus to the event provided valuable insights into their background and expectations in the real world. As their leader, I recognize the challenge of keeping them motivated and productive, ensuring they are well-prepared to navigate the demands of the professional landscape. Today’s experience reaffirmed the importance of fostering a dynamic and challenging environment for our team’s growth. #RepresentingZoomlionNA #CareerFairExperience #FutureLeaders #UniversityEngagement #InspiringStudents #DiverseSkillsets #ProfessionalGrowth #OptimismInTheFuture #summerinternship2024 #structuredesign #heavyequipment

University Counselor | Backing Practice with Cognitive Science | Student and Counsellor Mental Health Advocate
Our school's career fair happened 2 weeks ago, but since then, the local magazine -- THAT's Guangzhou -- graciously wrote a piece on it! https://lnkd.in/g7CdmN5g Interviewing for this piece made me reflect on how my role as a college counsellor shouldn't necessarily only be to advise students on their university and course choices but be able to provide signposts for them in their long-term journey (in the spirit of Rachel Doell's thoughtful piece on 'future pathways advisor' https://lnkd.in/gUwF5RiZ). And sometimes the college vs career counsellor perspective can look very different. Take course choice for example. As a college counsellor, how to help students make the 'right' course choice seems of paramount importance to me. However, when I have the careers counsellor hat on, what becomes salient is the fact that career development is not necessarily linear, and that many (if not most) individuals are embarking on a career that is quite different from what they studied back in university. The careers fair was a great opportunity because it wasn't me rambling about these points to students but for successful leaders in industries to tell them directly that: - Career development is not necessarily linear; it's okay and rather common to steer away from your university major - Success comes in many forms; what is successful to others may not be success to you - Failures are inevitable; work hard but don't be afraid to make mistakes - Don't be afraid to chase your dreams It is admittedly hard to juggle both hats of college and careers counseling -- but the career fair was a good reminder for me that it's important to allocate time and resources into expanding the definition of my role, and supporting students in their journeys well after university. #careercounselling #collegecounselling #studentadvising
