#MidweekMarvels: NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration Scientific Equipment Operators (SEO) in the cockpit of the WB-57. 🛩 Meet Don Darrow (L) and Thomas A Casey (R), two SEO engineers at NASA with the second best seat in the house—just behind the pilot! Stationed in the rear cockpit, these experts operate advanced sensor instruments like our #SAMI, integrated into aircrafts such as the WB-57. They play a crucial role in observing and analyzing space vehicle atmospheric re-entry from an unparalleled vantage point. 🔭 Whether they’re cruising below 50,000 feet or above geared up in their pressure suits, these airborne scientists have a mission to collect crucial data that’ll turn 'to infinity and beyond' from a catchphrase into a reality for us all. 💫 The importance of an SEO operating our #SCIFLI Airborne Multispectral Imager (SAMI) is to collect data from the UV through MWIR so that NASA and their affiliates can understand the impact of high temperatures surrounding a space vehicle, which then contributes to its overall design and architecture. 🚀 #UpNext: One on one with both Tony and Don to learn more about their roles in recent missions like OSIRIS-REx and the Solar Eclipse, along with what's ahead for them and the SCIFLI and OKSI teams. 👊 💪
