 Key tips for Lithium Ion Battery Safety that can be applied immediately to your home or workplace; - Avoiding unsupervised charging of Lithium Ion Batteries, do not over-charge the batteries (or leave them charging overnight) -  Only use the batteries and charging equipment that comes from the devices manufacturer, approved for the device using the battery. - keeping the batteries and chargers away from heat sources. - For workplaces that use lithium ion batteries for radio systems - Implement a radio and battery inspection log, charging status, charge hold status, any damages, battery temp, etc. This ensures that batteries are identified as failing before the next incident, and proves a record exists of these inspections. - Implement a battery disposal procedure for damaged batteries complete with suitable storage location. - Every lithium Ion battery device, comes with a manufacturers guideline for the safe use of that device. Ensure these guidelines are implemented in your internal procedures. - Never charge lithium Ion batteries in an exit path. - Never charge litium ion batteries on a couch, bed, or materials that will readily ignite. - Ensure that lithium-ion batteries and devices that use lithium-ion batteries are certified by Underwriters Laboratory or another recognized organization.

In 2023 when we surveyed Edmontonians, 71% said they would like to see increased law enforcement or security presence in the core. The EDBA stepped up to the plate and introduced a new program called Night Patrol. The program has two teams comprised of a security professional and peer support worker from Hiregood.ca (an incredible organization, btw). Night Patrol is out seven days a week from 12:30 - 8:30 a.m. conducting physical and visual checks of businesses, buildings and downtown public assets. The city intends to sign construction contracts worth close to $7 billion with two construction partnerships for the new Queens and Bronx jails that show they may not be completed until 2031 — four years after the 2027 Close Rikers deadline — city records show. The new Queens jail, overseen by the city Department of Design and Construction, will cost at least $3.9 billion, while the new Bronx facility will cost at least $2.9 billion, notices published in the City Record state.
