**The Ever-Evolving Amazon Landscape: Adapt or Get Left Behind**
Ever noticed how managing an Amazon account feels like navigating a maze... blindfolded... and on roller skates? Yeah, it's not for the faint of heart.
But, here's the kicker: those who dare to adapt are the ones who reap the rewards. Transitioning from Amazon 1P selling to a hybrid or total Amazon 3P model isn't just a change; it's an evolution. Marketplace Valet has been at the forefront, guiding giants through this labyrinth with ease.
So, whether you're an 8-figure behemoth or inching closer to that 9th digit — remember, success on Amazon isn't just about surviving. It's about thriving. Don't get left behind because you were too afraid to take off the blindfold and ditch those roller skates.

A decade ago, Amazon launched its Echo device and pulled a page from shaving giant Gillette's playbook: Sell the razors at a loss and make heaps of profits on the refillable blades.
The problem for Amazon is that it never found its razor blade, and just between 2017 and 2021, Amazon has lost more than $25 billion – the whole market cap of Tyson Foods – on its devices business.
Part of the reason that devices has been able to accrue so many losses is because of Amazon’s reliance on an internal metric called “downstream impact,” or DSI, it assigns a financial value to a product or a service based on how customers spend within Amazon’s ecosystem after they buy it. DSI is not precise and led to double and triple counting revenues and other consequences.
Now, CEO Andy Jassy is trying to plug the hole and move away from DSI. Later this month, they could announce a fee for a new and improved Alexa experience. Read all the details in my story, which is based on internal financial documents that Amazon does not share with Wall Street (or even broadly internally) and lots of interviews.

I'm very skeptical that people will be willing to pay for an enhanced Alexa service when the basic service fails to correctly set timers, play music, fails at conversational prompts, and has so many other problems doing very basic things.
Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of having a functional Star Trek like ubiquitous computer throughout your home that can assist you and do all kinds of things. We do, in fact, have Alexa in many of the rooms in our homes, and when we go on vacation, we do find ourselves saying Alexa and asking questions or asking for timers or music only to remember that Alexa is actually not available everywhere.
I feel like Alexa needs to be able to successfully complete basic tasks and respond to conversational prompts with a much higher success ratio. Then, maybe an enhanced service could be built on top of that, but as it stands right now, Alexa is not even close to that.
