here are some additional thoughts on addressing the housing crisis, affordable food, poverty, and homelessness in Canada: **Housing:** * **Focus on energy efficiency:** Encourage the construction of energy-efficient homes to reduce housing costs and emissions. * **Explore alternative housing models:** Investigate innovative housing models like co-housing and micro-apartments to provide more affordable options. * **Support homeownership:** Offer programs to help first-time homebuyers with down payments and closing costs. **Affordable food:** * **Reduce food waste:** Implement policies and programs to reduce food waste at all stages of the food chain. * **Support local farmers:** Encourage the purchase and consumption of locally-grown food to reduce transportation costs and environmental impact. * **Invest in food literacy programs:** Educate individuals and families about healthy eating habits and how to budget for groceries. **Poverty:** * **Invest in universal basic income:** This program could provide a guaranteed minimum income for all Canadians, reducing poverty and inequality. * **Address income inequality:** Implement policies that address the gap between rich and poor, such as progressive taxation and wealth redistribution. * **Promote financial literacy:** Provide education and resources to help individuals manage their finances and make informed decisions. **Homelessness:** * **Focus on rapid rehousing:** This approach helps individuals experiencing homelessness quickly transition into permanent housing. * **Invest in supportive housing:** Provide housing with on-site support services for individuals with complex needs. * **Combat discrimination:** Address discrimination against homeless individuals in the housing market and other areas of society. **Additionally:** * **Promote social cohesion:** Build a more inclusive society where everyone feels valued and supported. * **Address climate change:** Climate change can exacerbate these issues, so addressing climate change is crucial for long-term solutions. * **Learn from other countries:** Look at successful initiatives implemented in other countries to address similar challenges. These are just some of the many potential solutions to the complex issues of housing, poverty, food costs, and homelessness in Canada. It's important to continue researching, discussing, and experimenting with different approaches to find the most effective and sustainable solutions for the future. Addressing the complex issues of housing, poverty, food costs, and homelessness in Canada requires a multi-pronged approach. Here's a breakdown of potential solutions: **Housing:** * **Increase housing supply:** * **Zoning reform:** Allow denser development in urban areas, including mixed-use zoning and infill development. * **Streamline development approvals:** Reduce red tape and expedite the development process. * **Incentivize construction of affordable housing:** Offer tax breaks and other financial assistance to developers building affordable units. * **Invest in public housing:** Increase funding for the construction and maintenance of public housing units. * **Make housing more affordable:** * **Rent control:** Implement rent control measures in areas with high rental inflation. * **Increase social housing subsidies:** Provide more financial assistance to low-income individuals and families for rent and housing costs. * **Increase minimum wage:** A higher minimum wage can help low-income earners afford housing. * **Invest in tenant protection:** Strengthen tenant rights and ensure access to legal aid for tenants facing eviction. **Affordable food:** * **Increase social assistance benefits:** Provide higher income support to ensure individuals and families can afford basic necessities like food. * **Expand food bank access:** Support and expand food banks and other food security initiatives. * **Invest in urban agriculture:** Encourage the development of community gardens and urban farms to increase access to fresh produce. * **Regulate food prices:** Implement measures to stabilize food prices and ensure affordability, particularly for essential items. 👏👏👏 There has been so much BS talk by the government about reconciliation and what has the government actually done? Talk, talk, talk. Trudeau even snubbed a Reconciliation Ceremony in Vancouver years ago, he didn't bother to show up even though he was very close by. How many First Nations communities are still without clean water, homes that are a danger to health to live in, living in squalor. What has the government done? Zip! Just talk, talk, talk making endless "promises" to fix the problems. Their idea of fixing? Create another commission to investigate, come up with solutions but never execute. Endless misuse and waste of taxpayers money, all Canadians taxpayers money, while First Nations continue to need and deserve help. Go Pierre! Help, listen to and work with First Nations. They deserve to be heard and respected as keepers of our lands.
MP for Carleton, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, and running to be Prime Minister of Canada
First Nations Will Bring Home Resource Projects & Dollars With Poilievre. Common sense leader backs First Nations' demand for less bureaucracy in Ottawa & more local control of resource money in communities.

When it comes to risk, rural developments are a real danger zone in the Republic of Ireland – from loss of deeds to sporting and fishing rights. I aim to provide some insight into the risks faced in the below article. Westcor International #westcor #titleinsurance #roi
In light of the most recent budget from the Irish government, we thought it timely to release our latest article on how to mitigate the risks of rural and community developments. In his budget address, Minister for Finance Michael McGrath confirmed the provision of €431 million in funding to support vibrant, inclusive and sustainable communities across Ireland. Whilst much of the funding is to promote social cohesion and provide community support, the Republic of Ireland’s 26 counties are in much need of a sustainable development programme to build on its infrastructure outside of Dublin – whether this is in greater housing provision, community and care homes or industrial developments to boost economic strength. If you are a developer or investor progressing development opportunities in the rural communities of the Republic of Ireland, you may be interested in learning more about the potential risks and ways to mitigate these risks and speed up the development process. https://lnkd.in/e_-Cjcnq #ruraldevelopment #irishconstruction #communitydevelopment

Planning Resource reports that the size of England’s green belt hasn’t changed much in the last thirty years: in 1998 the total green belt in England was about 1,556,700 ha; between 2003 and 2023, green belt remained between 1,612,980 and 1,668,160 ha the latest government figures show. I have two immediate thoughts on this: Firstly: politically and nimby motivated 'loss of Green Belt' arguments need to be put into this context. Secondly: there must be flexible re-allocation of some Green Belt - e.g. so as to permit housing near public transport hubs, allow facilities such as floodlit artificial grass pitches and other community sports facilities where they are needed, and swop poor quality allocated land for land that better meets the 5 purposes.
