Oklahoma Filmmakers: Is everyone ready to support our community by attending Film Day at the Capitol on March 25th? If you are, here are some of my personal thoughts on how to make it a productive and proactive day: 1. Be respectful. When speaking to our representatives it is important to show them respect regardless of your personal, political beliefs. You will be representing our industry and we need to show our representatives that we are informed, intelligent, professional, and willing to listen to their concerns & perspectives. 2. Be succinct. There will be a lot of us and very few of them. Allow time for others to speak to the representatives. Know what your talking points and stay focused. 3. Make it personal. How has the current incentive program helped you? What are some of the positive outcomes that you have seen happen by virtue of the rebate? 4. Be informed. Know who your representatives are and do some quick research on how they have voted on the incentive bill. Read up on the current bills up for vote and on those that didn’t pass. Dig a little deeper and see how they have voted on other economical impactful bills. Understand that they have a lot of issues to focus on other than film incentives; help them to understand why they should keep our interests in their Top 5 issues. (Economic impact, tourism, educational opportunities, career opportunities, etc.) 5. Express gratitude. The Oklahoma Film Enhancement Rebate Program has come along way since 2001. At that time, the state only offered a 15% rebate. In 2021, the annual cap of $8 million was raised to $30 million and is a designed with a base of up to 20% along with uplift opportunities. One last note-It’s important to our film future that we support the efforts of our leadership. Let the OKFMO, OKCFCS, TOFMAC & CFC know that you appreciate all their collaborative efforts. Share your concerns and VOLUNTEER TO HELP SUPPORT THEIR WORK. It isn’t easy balancing the needs and desires of the community along with the reality of working within the constraints of the political system. See you all on the 25th! The importance of attending film festivals for new filmmakers! Having been in the film industry for a few years now, I’ve come to realize just how important it is to attend film festivals, especially if you’re a new filmmaker. When I first started out, I didn’t fully understand the value of these events. But over time, I’ve met countless filmmakers at festivals, many of whom I’ve gone on to collaborate with. These gatherings are a fantastic place to showcase your work, get feedback from an audience, and most importantly, connect with others who share your passion for filmmaking. As a new filmmaker, it’s easy to feel isolated, especially when you’re just starting out. But film festivals are where you can break out of that isolation and meet like-minded people who are just as passionate about storytelling as you are. I’ve found that the connections I’ve made at festivals have often led to opportunities I never would have imagined. Whether it’s finding someone who complements your skills or discovering a mentor who can guide you, these relationships are invaluable in helping you navigate the industry. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that you can’t make a film on your own—you need a team. Film festivals are the perfect place to start building that team. You’ll meet writers, directors, cinematographers, and actors who are all eager to collaborate. It’s not just about networking; it’s about finding people who believe in your vision and who can help bring it to life. That’s why, if you’re serious about making it in the film industry, attending festivals should be a priority. It’s where your filmmaking journey can truly begin. #filmfestivals #newfilmakeradvice #filmmakingtips

Film festivals serve as a launchpad for films, offering exposure, validation, and networking opportunities that can lead to licensing deals. Utilizing festivals as part of your distribution strategy can significantly enhance the commercial prospects of your movie. Beyond just commercial prospects, festivals provide an excellent platform for ✔Networking; allows you to connect with potential buyers and collaborators who might be interested in licensing your film. ✔Credibility and validation; as licensing agents often look for films with festival recognition as a sign of potential commercial success ✔Audience reception; positive feedback and reviews can create buzz and increase the perceived value of your film. ✔Festival specific opportunities; some film festivals host market sections or industry-focused events where filmmakers can pitch their projects directly to potential buyers. ✔Industry exposure; screening your movie at a festival increases its visibility among key players in the film industry. Remember, the film festival circuit is not only about winning awards but also about building connections and gaining exposure for your film, which can lead to licensing and distribution opportunities. Adapt your strategy based on the feedback and experiences you gather throughout the process; hopefully you might be on your way to building a track-record with your movie, both locally and internationally. #filmfestivals #distribution #film #content #ip #licensing #filmfestivals

Exploring new horizons in cinema 📣 Available for commissioned projects 🎥 Love experimental filmmaking 📝 Passionate about storytelling 📍 Philly Based
Congratulations! Your film has made it into a major film festival! So, what now? The first order of business is to establish an open line of communication between you and the the theater or festival venue. You should also make sure your film is formatted properly for the sceeening. Ask the festival/theater if they want a Digital Cinema Package (DCP), Blu-Ray, or a digital file. If the theater/festival has the only copy of your DCP, ask for its return after the screening. Once you get to the festival there are lots of things to do before and after the screening. For example, you can ask to volunteer yourself, or if there’s a Q&A after the screening if you should be ready for that. REMEMBER: You are looking for as much exposure and publicity as possible and they need your help. Also, volunteering strengthens your relationship with the festival people and keeps you updated on upcoming events. Dress code should always be taken into consideration when attending film festivals. Keep in mind that some events are more formal than others. Leave postcards (smaller copies of your film’s poster) as well as your business cards on nearby tables. That way, people can learn more about you and your film. Keep in mind that you can stay as long as you like after the premiere, so take the opportunity to talk with the people who enjoyed your film. Who knows where it might lead! 😊 #film #filmmakers #filmfestivals

EUROCINEMA 🎦 welcomes the announcement by the German Minister of Culture, Claudia Roth, of her plan to reform the German film 🎞 financing system as part of the transposition of the AVMS directive, which includes an obligation for streamers and other VoD services to reinvest 20% of their revenues generated in Germany in European audiovisual production, with 70% of this amount to be devoted to original German-language productions. EUROCINEMA 🎦 points out that obligations to invest in creation, and in particular in independent production, are essential public cultural policy instruments for the diversity of creation and the sustainability of investment in Europe. https://lnkd.in/gHcwqy2E
