#CaliforniaBusiness Fact sheet by PPIC Public Policy Institute of California - (excerpts) “At the end of 2022, #California was home to 1.7 million private-sector businesses that generate 90% of the state’s economic output (about $3.2 trillion) and account for 87% (or 15.6 million) of #Californiajobs. The public sector accounts for the remaining 13%.” “About nine out of ten (92%) business establishments (or physical sites) employ fewer than 20 employees.” “#businessownership does not mirror California’s #demographic makeup. Women are underrepresented as business owners., with only 23% sole ownership compared to 61% for male. “ “Latino and Black Californians are also underrepresented: 14% of firms were owned by Latinos and about 2% were Black owned in 2021; these groups comprise 39% and 5% of the state workforce. Asian Californians are overrepresented, making up 23% of business owners and about 16% of the workforce.”

The median Black household wealth was forecast to hit zero by 2053 in a 2017 report by Prosperity Now and Institute for Policy Studies. To be sure, Black Americans’ median wealth is less than 15 percent of that of white families in the U.S., according to the Federal Reserve’s 2019 Survey of Consumer Finances (https://lnkd.in/eGQhchAi). White families had a median wealth of $188,200, compared to $24,100 for Black families. The median Black household wealth was forecast to hit zero (https://lnkd.in/emxn6iBZ) by 2053 in a 2017 report by Prosperity Now and Ins titute for Policy Studies. The stats are in…… The DEBCC's efforts led to Delaware now collecting demographic data to classify businesses by race/ethnicity, gender, disability, and veteran status. Starting back in September 2022, this update is active only on OneStop.gov. The collected data has revealed over 5000 black-owned businesses, a significant increase from the 583 reported in the U.S. Census. This enables more targeted support for these businesses. If you're applying for or renewing a business license, remember to indicate your demographic information in OneStop.
