This week our Director General of Infrastructure, Akshay Kaul, visited Kincardine Offshore Windfarm, the largest commercial floating windfarm in the world. He met with infrastructure stakeholders from Flotation Energy & Riverswan Energy to hear their thoughts on the challenges and opportunities involved in delivering projects like Kincardine. Visits like this help us to understand whether there are any regulatory blockers or risks we should be aware of as well as our role in offshore project delivery. As we move forward in our energy transition, we want the UK energy market to remain attractive for investors, whilst delivering safe and reliable energy to consumers. We are committed to finding the right balance —one that benefits consumers with the best possible deals and keeps investors engaged in the UK's dynamic energy sector. Also attending from Ofgem were Stuart Borland and Yvonne Naughton.

#BreakingNews The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management announced two new lease sales: one in the Gulf of Maine and one off the Oregon Coast. The Proposed Sale Notices were issued for nearly one million acres in Gulf of Maine and just under 200 thousand acres off the coast of Oregon -- a combined potential 18 GW. The following statement can be attributed to Liz Burdock, CEO of Oceantic Network: “BOEM’s combined announcement solidifies two new regional markets for floating offshore wind, balancing the development of this industry sector across both coasts. New lease areas in Oregon will support a further buildout of the West Coast’s regional supply chain, adding strength to California projects. And in the Gulf of Maine, this new 15 GW potential will drive the creation of a floating offshore wind supply chain on the East Coast.” Read the full statement: https://bit.ly/4a2dYZf

Business & Industry Development | Project Development | Offshore Wind | Onshore Renewables | Green Hydrogen | TE 100 Women of Energy Transition 2021
2024 will be a watershed year for offshore wind in Australia and Western Australia has an opportunity to take the national lead in terms of exploiting this abundant natural resource. Put simply, for offshore wind to be successfully established, areas need to have an efficient supply chain to support the supply of project components, sufficient port infrastructure, a transmission network capable of receiving and distributing the electricity generated and appropriate financial investment. Not only does WA fit those criteria, but as one of the pioneers of the offshore industry in Australia it goes well beyond. As Andy Evans says - west side is the best side! Solid content in Business News today, but for Oceanex Energy - we found the most insightful reading on page 53. That's where one of the pioneers of the offshore wind in Australia, our very own CEO Andy Evans, clearly outlines the many reasons why 2024 will be an absolute watershed year for our industry. Andy also shares why Western Australia is in a unique and ideal position to capitalise on its offshore infrastructure experience, highly skilled resource, supply chain, port infrastructure, transmission network and strong appetite for financial investment to drive the offshore wind industry in Australia. Dedicated to delivering the transition to clean energy | Strategy, policy, regulation and advocacy | Open to connections from people I've met and followers from anywhere.
Labour's plan to decarbonise the power sector by 2030 means quadrupling offshore wind. We have 14GW today and an additional 13GW in the pipeline. That means we need to build all of that plus find an additional 22GW in the next six years. This year's AR6 auction set to contract 3-5GW. Given project lead times, something has to give. It is unsurprising that the industry are calling for more budget, but this needs to be balanced with the impact on bills. With government able to make changes to the budget for the upcoming auction until 1st August answering this question will be toward the top of Ed Miliband's in-tray. #offshorewind #energytransition #renewable #energy

🇺🇸 US company Friede & Goldman, Ltd. have been given approval in principle for their offshore wind BargeRack solution. BargeRack is designed to enhance the efficiency and safety of feedering offshore wind turbines that enable the direct lifting of wind turbine components from a fixed deck directly to the foundation. This eliminates redundant handling and streamlines the installation processes. Featuring a side-mounted configuration with an integrated deck skidding system, which optimises space utilisation, BargeRack is engineered to accommodate most existing barges without major modifications. Find out more why BargeRack could be a game-changer for the US offshore wind industry: https://bit.ly/3JmCf1r #GlobalOffshoreWind #RenewableEnergy #Offshore #OffshoreWindIndustry

🌊 The federal state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has once again approved the construction of the Gennaker Baltic Sea wind farm. Skyborn Renewables is authorised to erect the 103 wind turbines of the 927 MW project in the southern Baltic Sea. The state had originally approved the construction of the wind farm back in 2019. However, the project developer Skyborn, then still part of Bremen-based WPD, decided to use more modern wind turbines. As a result, the Bremen-based company had to restart the process. An appeal against the decision can be lodged with the Higher Administrative Court within the next four weeks, according to the licensing authority. To this end, the authority is making its decision available to the public until 8 April: https://lnkd.in/et7UuTbB (€) #renewableenergys #windpower #expansion #offshore

On April 30, 2024, the Interior Department announced its proposal for a first offshore wind energy auction in the Gulf of Maine. According to BOEM, “The proposed sale would include eight lease areas offshore Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire, totaling nearly 1 million acres, which have the potential to generate approximately 15 GW of clean, renewable energy and power over 5 million homes. In identifying these areas from the Final WEA, BOEM prioritized avoidance of offshore fishing grounds and identification of vessel transit routes, while retaining sufficient acreage to support the region’s offshore wind energy goals (13-18 GW based on information from Massachusetts, Maine, and ISO-New England).” There are upcoming virtual public meetings on this proposal, and a seminar about the lease auction. Virtual public meeting schedule (prioritizing various groups): https://bit.ly/4c7PUW7 Seminar on proposal for the lease sale is June 18: https://bit.ly/4e51u6p #climatecollaborative #InteriorDepartment #Proposal #BOEM #GulfOfMaine #OffshoreWindEnergy #Auction #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #Maine #Massachusetts #NewHampshire #LeaseAreas #Acreage #PowerGeneration #PublicMeetings #VirtualMeetings #CommunityInput

The first major step in a long journey.
We’ve just announced a study area for a new transmission line that will connect offshore wind energy to Victoria’s energy grid. 🔌 Drawing on feedback from local communities, the study area will avoid major towns, cover less private land than most other options we assessed, and allow us to explore opportunities to align with existing infrastructure. 🗺 To learn more about the study area and next steps visit https://lnkd.in/gbhv6wWJ

UK’s failure to attract offshore wind investment in 2023 deepened gas reliance. Cornwall Insights’ latest quarterly overview of power market trends in Britain states that, because the UK failed to attract any bids from offshore wind developers in its most recent Contracts for Difference (CfD) auction round, it risks missing its 2030 target to host 50GW of offshore wind capacity. Funding totalling £227m was announced under the auction round in September...
