while the argument for self-defense in the face of armed attacks by militant groups may be invoked by some states, it is essential to contextualize this argument within the broader framework of international law and human rights. The protection of civilian lives remains a paramount concern, and any actions taken in the name of self-defense must be consistent with the principles of necessity, proportionality, and humanity endorsed by the United Nations and the international community. #international law
