To everyone out there on the job search, please keep an eye out for emails like the one below. These are scammers trying to get a hold of your peronsal information by telling you that you have been shortlisted for a job you never actually applied to, fill out an interview questionnaire, they say you got the job without ever actually talking to someone face to face, and then they will tell you that you’ll have to go and cash a check that will be mailed to you for work equipment. Be sure to do a little research on your own as some of these companies actually do exist but are not actually hiring for the positions mentioned in these phony emails.

I've noticed a troubling trend in the hiring process that affects both companies and genuine job seekers. Many individuals, already employed with good packages, apply for new roles but fail to attend scheduled interviews. Even more disheartening are those who attend interviews, get selected, receive offer letters, and then use these offers merely as leverage for a better salary at their current jobs, without any intention of switching. This behavior is not only unprofessional but also a significant time waste for hiring companies and those who truly need a job. Professionalism and respect for others' time are crucial for long-term success. Let’s strive to maintain integrity in our professional journeys.

Candidate bombs interview!!! It's a recruiters worst nightmare when a client calls you with bad news on a recent interview with the candidate that you're representing. We lined up a talented Security Engineer with a major client of mine. His resume was a match, he knew all the details about the client and vice versa. You would think it would have been a slam dunk placement. Well.....In my world I take nothing for granted and in this situation it's no different. He showed up to the video in a sweatshirt! This immediately was a red flag to the hiring manager and he immediately passed on the candidate shortly after the interview concluded. Q1 is notorious for heavy movement for people looking for new jobs. With less jobs available right now, it's extremely important to stand out! Just been thinking about interviews. How unnatural they can be compared to the actual job we want to assess peoples suitability for, especially in human services. People feel more comfortable to be themselves when we create an atmosphere where they feel safe to do so, which is what we want our workplaces to be like right? Can you do that if your only real interaction is a single meeting? Can you learn what you need to know about someone in a gameshow style Q&A? I don't think you can. There are very few single datasets that can help make a solid hiring decision. . . . . apart from knowing whether or not they put the shopping trolley back where its supposed to be rather than leaving it in the middle of the car park of course. Solid red flag for me.

We Asked Hiring Managers: What's Your Biggest Turn Off During Job Interviews? Interviews can be stressful enough without having to worry about putting your foot in your mouth. To help shed some light, we surveyed hiring managers across different industries and gathered their biggest pet peeves and turn offs when interviewing candidates. Here's what they had to say: 🚩 Being Unprepared A top complaint was candidates who clearly did no research on the company and couldn't answer even basic questions about the role or organization. Do your homework! 🚩 Arrogance/Entitlement No one wants to hire someone who comes across as arrogant, entitled or acts like they're doing the company a favor. Stay humble and focused on why you're a good fit. 🚩 Poor Body Language Lack of eye contact, fidgeting, weak handshakes, and disinterested body language can be big turn offs that suggest disengagement or dishonesty. 🚩 Badmouthing Past Employers Even if you had a terrible boss, trash-talking previous companies shows a lack of professionalism and raises concerns about your ability to be discreet. 🚩 Being Ill-Prepared with Questions When a candidate has no questions for the interviewer, it makes them seem apathetic. Come prepared with insightful questions that show you're highly interested. 🚩 Checking Phone/Lack of Focus Having your phone out, texting, or letting your mind wander during the interview is just plain rude and signals you don't care about the opportunity.

Not all employers have the same environment or culture. As an applicant, you must look for these things during your interview… Warning signs - - Unclear about role and responsibilities - Frequent rescheduling or chaotic interviews - No mention of growth or development - Negative comments about employees - Frequent rehiring for the same role Reassurances - - Clear details about the role and its challenges - Prompt post-interview communication - Pride in company culture - Shares growth opportunities and career paths - Clarity of what’s next and when Interviewers are told to be at their best, it’s no different for the hiring managers. Pay attention to the environment while you enter, are waiting for your interview, and as you're leaving. Good luck, and happy interviewing!
