Today, on the National Day of Mourning, we pause to remember and honor those who have lost their lives or suffered injuries and illnesses due to workplace incidents. It's a solemn reminder of the critical importance of health and safety in our work environments. As we lower our flags and observe moments of silence, let us also commit to making safety a non-negotiable priority. Each statistic represents a person—a family member, a friend, a colleague—whose life has been profoundly impacted. In 2022 alone, Canada saw 993 workplace fatalities, including 33 young workers. The rising number of injuries and illnesses further underscores the urgency for transformational leadership and continuous improvement in our safety practices. Let us all renew our commitment to preventing these tragedies by actively promoting, participating and integrating safety as a foundational way of doing business.
