The European research project L3Pilot developed a Code of Practice for the development of Automated Driving Functions (CoP-ADF), which is the main objective of this document. The CoP-ADF shall provide a comprehensive guideline for supporting the automotive industry and relevant stakeholders in the development of the AD technology. The CoP-ADF is derived from gained knowledge in the industry as well as collected best practices in different topics. Thus, the CoP-ADF includes the following aspects: a) Collection of best practices on the topics that have been identified in L3Pilot as relevant; b) A typical process for the development and release of ADF; c) Safety aspects and methods to confirm a safe operation of ADF; d) Checklist targeting on engineers or to support the community. https://lnkd.in/d-j36jf

Dimitris Zissis informed me of the new Maritime and Coastguard Agency general exemption for USVs below 2.5 meters (MGN 702(M)). First of all, this is a step in the right direction. However, I see some limitations. A typical use case for such USVs is bathymetry, monitoring of sub-surface installations, etc., which can include using the USV as a launch and recovery vessel for small ROVs and AUVs. So, this exemption might limit such operations with the following conditions: - The vessel is not permitted to tow another vessel or object - The vessel is not permitted to be fitted with a lifting device - The vessel is not permitted to operate as a mother vessel This makes me wonder: Is a tethered ROV considered a towed object, or does the cable make the USV and ROV a single object? :) MGN 702(M): https://lnkd.in/dUbqp6uE

!!Stop Press!! The Maritime and Coastguard Agency has released MGN702 which is a General Exemption for Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) of Less than 2.5 metres in length overall and ensures that eligible vessels have an available proportional pathway to enable operation. This represents the first stage in a package of work to provide vital support to the small MASS sector (known colloquially by industry as MiniMASS). A further stage to this work to determine a proportional pathway for MiniMASS of 2.5 metres in overall length and above is currently underway to encourage and support innovation in a rapidly evolving sector. Please note that the MCA will be holding a stakeholder meeting later this month, so if you are actively involved with MiniMASS in the UK sector then I recommend that you get in touch with the MCA Codes team to make your voice heard ([email protected]). Alternatively, please contact me here through LinkedIn or via the FAST Cluster. #minimass #mass #marineautonomoussurfaceship #usv #asv #unmannedsystems #uncrewedsystems #thefutureisnow Please see here for more information: https://lnkd.in/epTpqwGi
