I have recently returned from a week’s holiday in Madeira. I travelled with Jet2.
For those who don’t know the island of Madeira, it is located in the Atlantic Ocean, 978 km south of Portugal, and about 700 km west of the African coast.
I've heard that Madeira is not one of the easiest airports to land a jet, from time to time, its location means strong winds can cause delays due to it not being safe to land. This could play havoc with airline schedules. For Jet2, success depends on moving large numbers of people to their resorts and home again, safely, quickly and efficiently.
Q: Why do they have such a location in their schedule?
A: Because many people who holiday in Madeira return.
Customer Loyalty
I don’t know the stats, but my guess is that Madeira must rank very highly in any list of returning holiday makers. Long term success depends on repeat business; customers returning again and again, and telling everyone how great you are. A retired couple I was speaking to were there for their 42nd time, and counting. That’s strong customer loyalty. They holiday other places too, but they keep returning to Madeira. For as long as Jet2 continue to fly to Madeira, their Boeing 737s will be full of happy holidaymakers returning again and again.

From booking my holiday online, to the team at Edinburgh airport, on the flight, at Madeira airport, the transfer to and from the resort, at my hotel in Funchal, to the information updates, I couldn’t fault any of my experience. #kudos
