#OTD in 1976, NASA rolled out the first space shuttle, Enterprise, from the manufacturing plant in Palmdale, California. According to History.com, In 1977, the Enterprise became the first space shuttle to fly freely when it was lifted to a height of 25,000 feet by a Boeing 747 airplane and then released, gliding back to Edwards Air Force Base on its own accord. #spaceshuttle #enterprise #nasa #space #spacex #astronaut #rocket #spaceflight #spaceexploration #spacetravel #spacestation #spaceship #spacecraft #astronomy #rocketlaunch #science #kennedyspacecenter #universe #astrophysics #spacexlaunch #outerspace

🚀 STS-42, a NASA Space Shuttle Discovery mission featuring the Spacelab module, experienced liftoff delays due to weather constraints. Originally scheduled for January 22, 1992, at 8:45 EST (13:45 UTC), the launch occurred an hour later at 9:52:33 EST (14:52:33 UTC). The primary objective of the mission was to investigate the effects of microgravity on various organisms. 🌌 🛬 After a successful mission, Discovery touched down on Runway 22 at Edwards Air Force Base, California, at 8:07:17 PST (16:07:17 UTC) on January 30, 1992. STS-42 was the first of two Discovery flights in 1992, with the second, STS-53, launching on December 2, 1992. Notably, this mission marked the last time Space Shuttle Discovery carried a seven-member crew until STS-82, which launched on February 11, 1997. 🌠👨🚀 #sts42 #nasa #spaceshuttlediscovery #microgravity #research #spaceexploration #agnirva #NASAspaceflight #JPL #spaceexploration #cosmos #astronomy #astrophysics #universe #spaceflight #rocketlaunch #astronaut

#onthisday in #tech #history -- February 24, 1949 🗓️ “First” US Rocket to Reach Outer Space 🚀 Considered the first US rocket to reach outer space by NASA, Bumper 5 is launched from the White Sands Proving Grounds in New Mexico. The rocket was a combination of a modified captured German V-2 ballistic missile with a US-designed WAC Corporal rocket. It reached a record altitude at the time of 244 miles. The later named and established Kármán line, which is 62.1 miles (100 kilometers) above the Earth’s sea level, is considered the upper limit of Earth’s atmosphere and the beginning of Outer Space. Interestingly, according to information found online there were other previous captured V-2 test flights launched from White Sands that reached higher than 100 km prior to Bumper 5. Still, the significance of Bumper 5 was that it was the first successful two-stage rocket launch, which proved the feasibility of the basic design of staged rockets that made successful space flight a reality. While you are reading this, a battered and bruised Odysseus lies on the surface of the moon, not quite dead yet. The Odysseus Moon Lander, a project by Intuitive Machines and supported by NASA, encountered a hiccup upon landing near the Moon’s south pole, tipping onto its side due to one of its feet catching on an obstacle, possibly a rock, crevasse, or slope. Despite this setback, the lander remains stable and capable of sending back data. Efforts are underway to maximize scientific return from the mission. #SpaceExploration #OdysseusLander #MoonLanding #NASA #IntuitiveMachines #InnovationInSpace #SPACE_CAFE_PODCAST full list of episodes: https://lnkd.in/e_fNTYwA #IntuitiveMachines #MoonLanding2024 #ArtemisProgram #LunarExploration #SpaceInnovation #CommercialSpace #NASA #SpaceTechnology #NewSpaceEra #SpaceScience

Energy in Australia - technology readiness levels (TRL) It would be ' best practice' if the energy debate in Australia included technology readiness levels (TRL) of the technology options available in the Australian context. "This best practices guide is suitable for reliably determining a meaningful technology readiness level (TRL) to both technology development and flight development projects. This guide defines TRLs and shares best practices for TRAs, including process and implementation. This guide also suggests a process for assessing risk associated with technology maturing to a higher level."

#India's #MarsMission 2031 : #ISRO is planning a Mars mission around 2030. The mission will include a rover and lander, and may also include a #helicopter that follows in the footsteps of NASA's Ingenuity drone. The mission is part of ISRO's plan to build on the expertise gained from Mangalyaan-1, which includes the #Mangalyaan-2 orbiter, which ISRO plans to launch by 2031. The Mars #Orbiter Mission 2 will include a #hyperspectral camera, a high-resolution panchromatic camera, and a #radar to study the early #Martian crust, recent basalts, and boulder falls. The mission will also enable long-term #human spaceflight missions and scientific experiments in microgravity. Jayadev Pradeep, a scientist with the #SpacePhysics Laboratory at the #VikramSarabhai Space Centre, said during a recent webinar that a helicopter planned for a Mars landing mission will carry a suite of #payloads for aerial #exploration of the #planet. The #aerial vehicle is to be capable of flying up to 328 feet (100 meters) above the surface of Mars to profile the #Martian atmosphere. For comparison, #Ingenuity reached altitudes as high as 79 ft (24 m) during its more than two hours of total #flight time and covered 10.5 miles (17 kilometers) of horizontal distance. #MAR #aerospaceengineering #spaceexploration #spacetechnology #spaceindustry #Xploreaerospace #Xplore #Xpore2024 #engineering #egineers #spacedesign #exploration #discovery #humanspaceflight Pic: NASA's Ingenuity helicopter Credits: Getty Images/NASA

🚀👨🚀 It's UN International Day of Human Spaceflight today, 12th April 🎆. I reflect on the benefits of human space flight and some of the negatives that occurred as a result. Definitely our life have changed as a result of efforts and research into humans face flight. 12 April 1961 was the date of the first human space flight, carried out by Yuri Gagarin, a Soviet citizen. This historic event opened the way for space exploration for the benefit of all humanity. Yes he was Russian and the Russians aren't popular right now but he was also human he started our venture into space. With the recent progress of private space, companies such as SpaceX with Starship are fully reusable rocket, this larger than the Apollo rocket has successfully flown into space preparing the way for reusable space access to humans. What space innovations will occur in the future? It would be very cheap and easy to go for a holiday to orbit or to other planets? Will we be able to move to another planet to live and work there? All space technology be a pollution to space and to the Earth or will it be clean and responsible? certainly human space flight will continue to develop because humans desire to explore never ends. Its a great day to reflect on these things on the day of human spaceflight! #InternationalDayofHumanSpaceFlight #spaceflight #space #nasa #spacex #spaceexploration #rocket #rocketlaunch #astronaut Img credit: Unsplash / Brian McGowan
