Commissioner Dr. Ann Sullivan participated in City & State's Healthy NY Summit and discussed Gov. Kathy Hochul’s historic investments to overhaul and strengthen the state’s mental health care system. Topics included school-based services for children and adolescents, increased access to care, especially for historically underserved communities, new regulations to ensure insurance coverage for mental health services, and supporting people with mental illness who are experiencing homelessness. Other participants included NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports Commissioner, Chinazo Cunningham, Jessica Fear, senior vice president of Community Mental Health Services for Visiting Nurse Service of New York, Kristy-Lee Jean-Pierre, senior vice president for Mental Health Services at The New York Foundling, and New York City Councilwoman Linda Lee.
Thank you for sharing this!
I think all of this is wonderful but I do extend an invitation for Dr. Sullivan to visit Corning, NY (Steuben County) I’m very involved in rural mental health advocacy and I’m confident she will learn a bunch. Many rural counties to the Eastern, Western and Northern NY. Maybe a Rural Healthy NY Summit? Please contact me to discuss further how this might come to fruition. I work with a number of nonprofit agencies, and counties leading a peer driven rural disparities behavioral health advisory group. 607-329-1816 or [email protected]
Making the New York Health Act law would vastly improve access to mental health care.
NY needs a real Commissioner of Mental Hygiene, and just three independent pseudo-commissioners.
Thank you for your leadership Commissioner Sullivan
