Hot take on RXO, Inc. acquisition of Coyote Logistics Makes a ton of sense. Coyote tech was out of date and RXO is best in class. That’s a area other bidders would have had to invest heavily in that’s solved. Also their ability to still service TFI International Inc. and XPO LTL business has great synergies for all three businesses. Moreover, the RXO/XPO family of companies have shown that biz integration is a core competency. They’re as likely as any company to actually realize the value (unlike most M&A efforts). Finally - this is the starting gun that a bunch of companies and firms needed to get the M&A markets in logistics moving again. 2H is going to be spicy 🥵

Mike “Ace” McCarron gets a lot of questions about whether it’s a good time to sell, usually from #trucking company owners who are “seller-curious” and want an opinion on whether they can strike it rich. The fact is, deals that produce the best returns for the seller — both financially and personally — require a tremendous amount of preparation. You have to be ready to go when the time is right, and that timing can change on a dime. #truck #businessmanagement #mergersandacquisitions https://lnkd.in/gpw9-rbP

Is the sale of Coyote Logistics inevitable? UPS had high expectations for Coyote Logistics, but from the start encountered difficulties integrating them into their operations. Reports suggest that CEO, Carol Tomé is looking to offboard their brokerage unit after a significant decrease in revenue since the pandemic. This potential shift could create ripple effects in the freight market, impacting everything from rates to service levels. As a broker navigating this cyclical market, it is crucial to be able to reduce costs and increase efficiencies.
UPS acquired Coyote Logistics in 2015 for $1.8 billion, marking it as the most expensive acquisition in UPS history at the time. https://lnkd.in/d_yiF43f

Three months ago, I joined the team Talon Logistics Inc. Here's what I've learned in that quarter: 1- From the outside, my perspective was that the company is a weird freight nirvana. It seemed to be really progressive when it comes to trying new things and learning, it seemed to foster a passion for doing right by customers, and clearly Talon has a dedication to #sustainability. The view from the outside is exactly right; and all of those things are true (I mean, heck, our CEO was invited to the White House to talk about the transition to ZEVs). -AND- 2- I was off on one major thing. There's WAY more appetite to keep it going and keep pushing the boundaries than I would have guessed. At the Mini-Manifest event last night (aside: Pam Simon knows how to throw a shindig!), I had a conversation about where digital freight brokerages have failed, and my response has always been the same. It's lack of focus on the things that matter to customers (more on this in another post). Talon doesn't have this issue. Everything we do, every piece of tech we roll out, every process we build... they're all focused on meeting the unique needs of each unique shipper (it's why we have clients who've been with us for more than 15 years). 3- Teamwork does make the dream work. Prior to joining Talon, I knew and respected the heck out of folks like Emmanuel Carrillo, Adam Tello, Abby Carrillo, Gio Marz, Luis Molina (legit creative genius!) and Justin O’Leary. Now, we're all on the same team, and as I've gotten to know everyone else... Oh My Goodness... I can't say enough good things about the people in the organization... every. single. one of them. 4- The numbers don't lie. We're crushing SLAs across the board. <.1% of containers we move accrue demurrage (and no, the decimal point in the percentage is not a typo... that's less than 1 in 1,000). It isn't branding smoke and mirrors... Talon just simply performs. I feel like a puppy who found his forever home. So happy to be here. #TalonSharp
