A great session yesterday and the beginning of closer collaboration between the system and network operators, sectors, industries and regions. Early engagement and aggregation of need, can help unlock investment in the grid connections which will be critical to supporting economic growth and net zero ambitions.
Our grid connection event with Highlands and Islands Enterprise, brought together National Grid ESO, SSEN Transmission and SSEN Distribution to highlight the connections reform taking place across the system. Members heard about the positive reforms planned for connections queue management, increased opportunities to engage with the reform process, and the whole-system long-term approach that is needed for energy as we progress towards net zero ambitions. Join us at an upcoming event https://lnkd.in/ej_MNpuU

As outlined in the NMA’s new white paper, “The Grid Reliability Crisis Collides with Surging Power Demand,” much of the U.S. grid is at risk with surging new electricity demand colliding with policy-driven power plant closures and mounting challenges to bring new resources and enabling infrastructure to the grid. Yesterday, UK Director Olivia Powis spoke at a webinar exploring the future of the CCUS sector as part of Energy Security & Green Infrastructure Week™ by Binary Carbon. Speaking alongside experts John Picken from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and Chris Thackeray from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Olivia discussed the progress to date of the CCUS industry, as well as the potential pipeline of projects across the UK, which has grown by 30% as demonstrated in our Delivery Plan Update. There is huge opportunity for CCUS in the UK, but we need to move quickly and have a long-term vision for deployment across the industry. #NetZero | #CCUS | #CarbonCapture

We had a great setup meeting last week for the new IEA Annex - on Measuring the performance of buildings. This was attended by around 50 experts from 7 countries. This Annex will hope to answer questions about how we measure heat loss at the dwelling level, across the globe, incorporating - for the first time ever - how we examine fabric performance in cooling dominated climates. We hope to also examine the current issues around measuring fabric performance in apartment block, and adjoined dwellings. A big thanks to UCL for hosting this event, and to all those involved in making it a huge success. The next step is to develop this proposal into a full working IEA EBC Annex which will be a four year project. America is know for thinking and going big, and that’s just what we’re doing when it comes to the clean energy future.
Built nearly 100 years ago, the Hoover Dam is a hallmark of big and bold action in the U.S. We invested in America then and, under the Biden-Harris Administration, we’re investing in America now. By 2030, we expect to add the equivalent of over 300 Hoover Dams-worth of clean energy to our grid.

📣 Here's another example of the great progress we're making at SSEN in setting up fit-for-purpose, flexible electricity services. ⚡ We're delighted to let you know that we've reached agreements worth £30 million, which will allow us to quickly procure more flex services when the need arises. 🤝 SSEN's Flexibility Manager Catherine Winning says, "Our distinctive approach will remove one of the barriers to getting involved in Flexibility, by reducing the level of contracting needed, thus allowing us to focus on the services we need and the value they deliver for the customer, and for ourselves." My latest overview article about investing in modern district energy systems. Heat networks are widely overlooked field in the race to net zero, and also an institutional investment alternative in the search for "energy transition assets". https://lnkd.in/dxnVSEqK Low-temperature heating and cooling networks (DHC), using renewables and heat recycling (plus efficient pipelines, seasonal storage, smart energy systems), could not only contribute substantially to decarbonization but also to better energy efficiency, affordability and security. Although investments in DHC networks are increasingly popping up in portfolios of asset owners and infrastructure funds, overall investment volumes are still very small. The special report discusses opportunities and challenges of such investments. #districtheating #heatnetworks #cooling #heating #netzeroinvesting #decarbonization #greeninvestment #infrastructure #infrastructureinvestment #climateinvesting #districtenergy #energytransition #energyefficiency #energypolicy #DHC #REWARDHeat Richard Lowe Prof. Dr. Tobias Popovic Roberto Fedrizzi Daniel Møller Sneum Chris G. It feels really great to be part of this amazing clean energy transition. It's happening in front of our eyes: all that solar mentioned in this video will need storage to even out the electricity flow. That's why I find the integration of BESS (battery energy storage systems) so rewarding: every project brings us closer to a sustainable energy future.
