We had a blast hosting winners from our Journey 2050 contest at our Carseland Nitrogen site last weekend to learn more about our operations and careers. Thank you to 4-H Alberta for partnering with us on this contest opportunity, and to Agriculture for Life for providing Journey 2050 workshops for members to learn more about sustainability! 🙌

Indoor farmers do not have to pray for rain, or sunshine, or moderate temperatures, or anything else related to the production of food crops. This is why lots of people think that #vertical #farming is a solution for the future of a #sustainable #food #system. We have interviewed Emiliano Gutiérrez, the founder and CEO of Raiz Vertical Farms. He is building a network of vertical farms through technology and #circularity. He is mission is to make a dent in the way we regenerate our cities, grow our food and fight world hunger. We asked him about the #sustainability of the method... Listen to what he has to say... https://lnkd.in/eXZ7wGbj ___________ #𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘪𝘯 #𝘴𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘱𝘰𝘥𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘯𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘮 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘯𝘰 𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘢 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵. Our first episode from our series “Beneath the surface” together with the Innovation Forum took place last Tuesday, March 5th and it was a great to see that more than 1’400 people registered to join this conversation on one of the most pressing issues: #soilhealth. I want specially to thanks the panelist who were part of it, thanks LUU Paul for setting the scene and for all your knowledge and scientific background related to this topic. Andrew Williamson, farmer in the UK, thanks for showcasing with concrete examples what are we doing together when we talk about #carbonfarming. Antoine Bedel I am glad to count with partners such as RAGT Seeds in our venture that not only provide us with top-of-range cover crops but also with a global understanding of what is best for biodiversity and our planet. Thanks Tobias Webb for such a vivid and sparkling moderation. Finally, I would like to thank our Agronomic Lead Florence Brayé who has not only brought light to our work in carbon farming across Europe, but also made clear that at Bayer farmer’s social, sustainable, and financial profitability is at the center of our objectives. Maximizing soil health is not crucial but a gamechanger for the transformation of our #foodsystems. If you didn’t have the chance to follow the conversation, you can hear the recording here: Webinar recording - Beneath the surface: exploring best practices for soil regeneration and carbon farming (innovationforum.co.uk)

Great talk about the relationship of birds and biodiversity!!
This is a "privilege and pleasure" post. Genuinely so. There are few people in the world who have as deep an insight into the interactions between bird diversity and agriculture as Professor Daniel Karp at University of California, Davis, the world's leading agricultural research institution. So it was a privilege and pleasure to invite Danny to speak to the University of California Trust Sustainability Group last month as a showcase of the leading edge research into how we can make farming more biodiverse.

“Farmers are already some of the biggest environmental stewards out there — their livelihoods depend on it.” —Oriana Lisker Bosin, Product Manager, Sustainability Solutions for John Deere Decarbonization is the catch-all term for decreasing the amount of “extra” carbon emitted. It doesn’t necessarily require us to use less carbon, but that we take it from sources that are already part of Earth’s balanced carbon cycle or that we manage the emissions sustainably. Learn more about how John Deere and Case New Holland Industrial are helping to redefine carbon-smart farming: https://lnkd.in/g_id_Y3V

The World Economic Forum and Bain & Company recently published a report outlining the financing and collaboration needed to support farmers in accelerating a transition to sustainable food production. It articulates the economic, technical and social barriers to adoption — presenting ways to address each. Here are key takeaways for scaling regenerative practices, especially #agroforestry: 1. Investing in agroforestry is smart business. Financial actors can reduce their risk exposure and open up new business opportunities while turbocharging regenerative agriculture programs 2. Put farmers first when designing programs. Farmers should be offered a flexible stack of financial and non-financial services from which they can select the support they need based on their specific context 3. Collaborate! Brands need pre-competitive collaboration along value chain companies to aggregate demand for environmental outcomes and improved farm resilience Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/eVvk-nxy
