IU School of Nursing educators Bryan White and Marian Gilhooly are driven by a shared vision: enhancing nursing education by integrating a wider variety of cultural experiences into simulation-based learning. White and Gilhooly initially observed a concerning trend in their simulation labs – most of the simulated patients lacked diversity, regardless of the disease or condition being studied – and they set out to change it by developing simulations that mirror the true diversity of America's population. For nursing students, hands on, clinical experience is important for mentorship, confidence and learning. The Clinical Externs in Nursing (CEN) program at St. Joseph’s is providing a valuable opportunity for students to develop these essential skills. The CEN Program, funded through the Ontario Ministry of Health, is an additional, paid placements nursing students can take on if selected. For these students, like Isha Rai and Riley Ellis, the CEN Program has helped improve their confidence and fulfill a lifelong dream of being a nurse. Are we fixing the Nursing shortage by passing failed students at the request of college administrators? Nursing Standard Of Care, where did it go? How much training is being given too new Graduates in nursing? Are nursing students crying to College officials and blaming the instructor for their failure? Are nursing students being passed in nursing programs despite failing their exams? Is the new Next Generation NCLEX exam dummied down to help the nursing shortage? Are CNO's thinking the increased pass rate with the new NGN NCLEX exam is because Instructors did something different? Seriously? This is a huge problem today, ask yourself as a nurse, did you earn your degree? or Buy it? I hope you can say you earned your degree and did not blame your instructor for the grade did not like. If you are an instructor and being forced to pass students, leave, it is unethical. If you are a college administrator, well you will be a patient someday, good luck. CNO's do not get blindsided with all the new graduates as a gift, invest in the 3-month training they need to make it the gift of filling all the vacancies.

An important teaching strategy that can be utilized in nursing education is the use of PowerPoints with voice-over. Rated as the top 5 highest preferred teaching strategies for nursing students in nursing programs with the important benefits of using more than one sense such as vision and hearing, helps improve audience focus, increases visual impact, and allows for better knowledge retention, especially for students who are visual and auditory learners encouraging individual learning at the learner’s speed (Harlan et al, 2021). Also, this teaching strategy allows students to check, recheck, and review the information presented and also allows students to review difficult concepts. Reference Harlan et al. (2021). Preferred teaching/learning strategies for graduate nursing students in web-enhanced courses. Dimension of Critical Care Nursing, 40(3), 149.155.
