As steadfast advocates on this topic, The ZAC Foundation for Children's Safety is pleased to see The Washington Post cite important CDC statistics on water safety in a recent piece by Dr. Leana Wen M.D. M.Sc., highlighting the 28% rise in drowning deaths among young children since 2019, and underscoring the need for enhanced water safety training. We are gratified by the nearly 200 supportive comments on the column. Three proposed policy changes to address this crisis are: 1. Increase Supervised Community Swimming Spaces: With 80% of child drownings occurring in residential settings, which are generally not lifeguarded, there is a need for more, safe community swimming areas with added layers of staffing. 2. Ensure Sufficient Lifeguards: Addressing the lifeguard shortage through free training, better pay, and school programs can keep pools open and safe. 3. Teach Kids and Adults How to Swim: Swim lessons reduce drowning risks by 88%. Promoting swim education, especially among minority groups, is essential. Together, by implementing these solutions, we can prevent drownings and ensure water safety for everyone.

Title: “Ending Childhood Hunger: A Collective Responsibility” Childhood hunger persists as a critical issue globally, affecting millions of children. Beyond immediate food aid, addressing this challenge requires a holistic approach, including nutritional education, community support programs, policy advocacy, and collaboration between stakeholders. Businesses play a vital role through corporate responsibility initiatives, such as ensuring transparent supply chains, engaging employees in social causes, and investing in innovative solutions. The call to action urges individuals, professionals, and leaders to unite in efforts to combat childhood hunger and build a future where every child has access to nutritious food and opportunity. #EndChildhoodHunger #ChildrenWelfare #FoodSecurity #SocialResponsibility #children
