5 Biggest Caregiver Concerns For The Summer Having been in the shoes of a caregiver, I understand the struggle of balancing work, family, and personal time. My days were often filled with 'time slotting', squeezing in 15-minute phone calls between other tasks. I would dedicate 1.5 hours to research and family-related questions, only to find myself stumbling back into the chaos of life. Vacations happened rarely, and even then, I was so tense that I couldn't relax very much, knowing there was so much work to be done. Vacations with my aging parents weren't fun at all. Last week I had the honor of speaking to the MarketCast team about my caregiving story & the hidden realities that working caregivers face. Like me, 3/4 of working Americans are also caregivers. Guess what: We're NOT okay. The thing is, we're masters of hiding it. We're the ones taking 'bathroom breaks' to make doctor's appointments, eating lunch at our desks to coordinate care, and joining Zoom calls from hospital infusion centers and parking lots. We're running on empty but still showing up with a smile because we're afraid of being seen as 'less dedicated' to our jobs. That's just one of the many reasons I hid being a caregiver at work for 14 years. But here's what I want every working caregiver to know: You're NOT failing. You're actually developing superpowers. You didn't ask for this responsibility, but that juggling act you're doing between meetings and MRIs? It's making you more efficient and no-nonsense than ever. You're a master of multitasking, problem-solving and time management. Those crisis management skills you've developed during the hardest moments? They're priceless. The empathy you've gained towards others? Irreplaceable. To all my fellow working caregivers: I see you. To everyone else: Please look around. Your most dedicated colleague might be silently drowning. Ask them how they're really doing. Offer to take notes in a meeting they need to miss. Small acts of support mean everything to us.
