When organizations invest in DEIA solutions without investing in outcomes they increase costs, create morale issues and decrease performance. I am using the Canadian Public Service as an example only because it has been brave enough to post what has been found. Private and other public organizations should not smile as this likely represents you as well. The public service has invested resources for decades to be accessible and inclusive. Reports released in 2021 show there has been no change in accessibility as promotion rates for people with disabilities have dropped over the past decade and hiring rates remain below workforce availability. A recent Auditor General's report identifies that despite significant resources, minimal progress has been made to address racism in the public service. This took resources from core programs and services. Morale for equity remains low creating retention challenges. Recent class action suits identify the risk of scandals and action without outcomes is the definition of irrelevancy. Imagine if those same efforts were made to tap into the diverse perspectives of equity members and invest/prioritize them to transform your organization instead of trying to keep fixing what is broken?

Last week I had the opportunity to attend the AWTC Advance, an in-person event sponsored by AWTC, the Association Women Technology Champions. As their website states, AWTC "is a networking and educational group, providing knowledge and support to advance women in association technology." (Click here to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gKpyFnEa) I was really impressed by the program, which used an "unconference" design that uses a "loose" structure that is more focused on attendees sharing information, as opposed to someone at the front of the room talking to the attendees (i.e., traditional classroom style learning). I confess, I'm not a huge fan of unconferences, but this one was very well-executed and I suspect was well-received by all the attendees. The leadership of the AWTC and those who organized the event are all professionals with decades of professional experience. They are all also volunteers (AWTC has no paid staff). They are offering up their time and expertise to help others (which, of course, is the stated goal of the group). More than 25 years ago, as a fairly new membership director, I wrote an article for one of ASAE's newsletters (now long gone). Someone on my staff asked me why I volunteered to write the article and I replied "When I took this job, I spent many hours reading all kinds of articles written by other association executives. Those articles helped me do a job that I had practically no idea how to do when I took it. I felt I needed to pay that back." (Now commonly called "paying it forward.") The AWTC conference reminded me that those of us who have been fortunate enough to have learned from others before us have an obligation to share our wisdom with others. In this season of giving, ask yourself "Who am I bringing along?" #datamanagement

Someone asked me recently, “what have you accomplished?” They had speculated that the work I do was minimal as a “conference organizer.” I am most definitely NOT just a conference organizer. Milestones and Accomplishments: Launching the World's first online e-Police Station: WWT launched the first e-police station in a video game, a groundbreaking initiative that earned two 2024 Cannes Lion awards and was shortlisted three times. Collaborations with the U.S. Department of State: Under the Obama Administration, WWT hosted two #Fishackathons, emphasizing the importance of technology in solving global challenges. Combating Online Harassment: The #MyGameMyName initiative addresses online harassment against women, promoting safer digital spaces. This campaign won three awards at the 2018 Cannes Lions Festival including the Silver Glass Lion, and won the second Best Campaign of 2018 Grand Prix by Brainstorm 9. It was also shortlisted twice. Launched junior innovation camps for K-12 and tech workshops for seniors. Pioneering Inclusivity: For over a decade WWT has launched conferences and events in multiple countries and cities. Hailed as the "Most Inclusive Conference" In 2019, WWT hosted its largest tech conference featuring an all-deaf main stage panel, setting a precedent for inclusivity in tech conferences. This covers SO LITTLE of the #decadeofimpact with Wonder Women Tech and I’m not sharing all the awards and nominations, or the work I’ve done for the last 20 years. I seek the people and brands who want to invest in me, my ideas, and impact. 🌟
