🦅 **Spotlight on Wildlife: The Whiskered Tern (Chlidonias hybrida)** 🦅 Today, let's appreciate the beauty and fascinating characteristics of the whiskered tern. This medium-sized bird is a marvel of nature, especially during the breeding season when its black cap and white cheeks give it a unique 'whiskered' look. Key Features: - **Size**: Approximately 25-30 cm wingspan. - **Breeding Plumage**: Striking black cap, grey body, white cheeks, and red legs. - **Non-breeding Plumage**: Paler, with a white forehead, grey wings, and darker ear patches. Habitat and Behavior: Whiskered terns thrive in freshwater wetlands, marshes, and lakes, and are often spotted in coastal regions during migration. Their diet consists of small fish, insects, and crustaceans, which they skillfully catch while hovering and diving. They nest in colonies on floating vegetation or shallow waters, ensuring the safety of their young. Global Presence: These terns have a wide distribution, spanning Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. Their migratory nature means they travel long distances between breeding and wintering grounds, showcasing their resilience and adaptability. Conservation Note: Although not currently endangered, the whiskered tern faces challenges due to habitat loss and degradation. Protecting wetland environments is crucial for the survival of this captivating species. Let's celebrate and support wildlife conservation efforts to ensure that the whiskered tern continues to grace our wetlands and skies. 🌍🦅 #WildlifeWednesday #BirdWatching #Conservation #WhiskeredTern #NaturePhotography #WildlifeConservation

The latest artwork depicting the "Swift Parrot Dreaming" truly captures the essence of these colorful and critically endangered birds. It's my initial attempt at painting them, and it's disheartening to learn about their declining population due to deforestation and lack of government protection. These vibrant creatures are in urgent need of our assistance now more than ever. Through art, I aim to shed light on their struggles and inspire others to take action in preserving their natural habitat.Did you know that swift parrots heavily rely on mature forests for nesting and finding food? With ongoing logging activities destroying their homes, their existence is under threat. It's concerning to think that these stunning birds might vanish if we don't act promptly. The new painting will soon be available in the online store, but in the meantime, you can explore the turtle artwork from last week. Each purchase contributes towards conservation efforts, making a significant impact on these vulnerable species. I am committed to using my art to raise awareness and funds for wildlife conservation. Your support is incredibly important to me, and together, we can create a positive change for the environment. Thank you for accompanying me on this crucial journey to safeguard and appreciate the beauty of nature. Let's collaborate to ensure a brighter future for all living beings. The Red-tailed Black Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus banksii) is a striking and charismatic bird native to Australia. As one of the largest and most recognisable cockatoo species, it is known for its impressive size, distinctive plumage, and, as the name suggests, its prominent red tail feathers. This species is further divided into various subspecies, each with unique regional variations in appearance and habitat preferences. The Red-tailed Black Cockatoo is characterised by its glossy black plumage, which contrasts sharply with its vibrant red tail feathers. The adult males typically have a broader and more pronounced tail band than females. Their striking appearance makes them a favourite among birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts. These cockatoos are predominantly found in the eucalyptus forests and woodlands across Australia, displaying a preference for habitats with ample food sources, such as native seeds, fruits, and nuts. They are highly adaptable and can also inhabit coastal areas, grasslands, and urban environments. Red-tailed Black Cockatoos are known for their loud and distinctive calls, which serve various communication purposes, including mate attraction, warning signals, and flock coordination. Their intelligence and social behaviour contribute to their close-knit family groups and communal roosting habits. #redtailedblackcockatoo #cockatoo #australianbirds #australiawildlife #wildlifeconservation #art #illustration

Beavers: Habitat, Types & Facts - Animallearns Nature's engineers, beavers reshape their aquatic habitats with their sharp incisors and strong jaws. They are the biggest rodents in Britain, and they love living near fresh water. They look for places with lots of plants, trees, and woods, where they feel safe and happy. These furry animals are not very fast on land, but they are amazing swimmers like dolphins and blue whales. They like to have deep water around them, at least 70cm deep. If the water is too shallow, they don’t give up. They use mud, wood, and stones to build dams that make the water deeper. Their dams are not perfect, but they slow down the water and create ponds. Beavers make their homes in these ponds, where they can relax and enjoy themselves. In North America, the beaver is even bigger. They can weigh up to 40 pounds and be over 3 feet long, including their special tails. Their tails are wide and flat, with scales and a few hairs on them. They can be 15 inches long and 6 inches wide. This animal has other special features too: webbed feet for swimming and strong teeth for chewing. They are very important for the environment in North America. They make dams that stop the water from eroding the land and create ponds that are home to many other animals. They are very clever and hard-working rodents that change the world around them for the better. #BusyBeavers #DamBuilders #BeaverNation #WildlifeWonders #EagerEngineers #TailSlapTuesday #BeaverFacts #NatureBuilders #LodgeLife #ChewCrew #RiverArchitects #WildlifeConservation #WoodlandWonders #AquaticEngineers #FurryEngineers #WetlandWonders #DamGoodTimes #BeaverTales #WildlifeWednesday #NaturesEngineers
