Our attention is first and foremost on the families of those whose lives were lost and on the survivors. We acknowledge that those who lost their lives were from the immigrant community, which is being hardest hit by this disaster.  The bridge and the waterway will be closed for some time, affecting jobs and livelihoods in already struggling and underserved communities. In this scenario, we anticipate a significant surge in demand for support services, ranging from emotional counseling and financial assistance to job placement services and more.  Given the scope of the needs and the potential for our resources to be stretched thin, collaboration among nonprofits is more critical than ever. We are reaching out to fellow organizations, community groups, and faith communities to compile a comprehensive list of available resources, services, and assistance programs that can be mobilized to aid those affected by the Key Bridge collapse. Our goal is to collect these resources into a centralized, easily accessible format that will be shared broadly within our network and with the public, ensuring that those in need can find the help they require efficiently and effectively.

Join Building Impact in fighting against summer hunger for families in need by contributing to their Summer Food Drive. In Massachusetts, 36% of surveyed households with children reported that their child is food insecure. With summer break coming up for kids, many families who rely on school-provided breakfasts and lunches may be struggling to purchase food. 100% of all donations will go to their three partners: Action for Boston Community Development, Inc. (ABCD), Boston Medical Center (BMC)'s Preventative Food Pantry, and People Helping People, Inc. - Burlington MA to help deliver meals. The past week in North Queensland has been harrowing for so many, and now the work of the clean up is well underway. We know infrastructure will take months and years to repair, and that support will come in many diffent forms. FRRR (Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal) know that support now is critical, but so too is support later, when recovery needs change over time, and longer term need emerges, usually after 12-18 months later and up to 10-12 years depending on the disaster impact and context. FRRR work alongside communities for the long haul, so please consider giving or partnering if you are able, via the DRRF, or via a direct contribution to a small grant via Strengthening Rural Communities Prepare and Recover. As we all watch the devastation caused by wildfires in Jasper with broken hearts and a desire to help, we're hoping to quickly mobilize our community and collaborate with a shared purpose. We expect there will be substantial resources emerging to help rebuild the infrastructure, so our immediate focus is to get some money into the hands of the thousands of Jasper hospitality and tourism workers who are seeing their livelihoods destroyed during the peak summer season. There are many steps and discussions to come, but for now we want to create a contact list of all the Edmonton-area businesses and community leaders who want to be part of this initiative. Next steps may include: - Identify the best nonprofit/agency to hold and disburse the funds for our intended purpose - Identify and create key messaging, promotional materials and media - Explore the potential of larger fundraising events - Coordinate smaller campaigns - Identify potential donors and champions.
