In Michigan, nearly 12% of people face food insecurity, and many of our community members face barriers to accessing nutritious food. Food insecurity has soared over the past few years, making it more important than ever to create a future where our food system is equitable, sustainable, and equipped to meet southeast Michigan’s needs. At our foundation, we support a number of nonprofit organizations, including Fair Food Network, Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan, Forgotten Harvest, Capuchin Soup Kitchen, and Make Food Not Waste, who are working to increase food access, destigmatized food insecurity, and provide education and resources so that people throughout our region can thrive. 🥬 Fresh, healthy food is a basic human right! 🥬 Yet it's becoming a luxury. The Boston Globe recently reported that grocery prices have gone up 25% since 2019. In that time, food insecurity in Massachusetts has also doubled. More families than ever are turning to food assistance programs for help. When they do, we believe they should find nutritious, high-quality options that nourish them, spark joy, and reflect their tastes. That's why Gaining Ground farms sustainably for hunger relief, and donates *everything we harvest* to regional food pantries, soup kitchens, day shelters, schools, and more. Will you support our work with a tax-deductible contribution today? Your financial contribution will yield fresh, organic produce this year for 2,100 households experiencing food insecurity in #Boston, #Lowell, and the #MetroWest. https://lnkd.in/e5vKvS7P Thank you!

In 2023, The Food Bank shared 26.5 million pounds of food to tens of thousands of neighbors across our 32-county service area. According to a current study by Feeding America, 1 in 7 people - 1 in 5 children - in Missouri are food insecure. Based on more recent local data, that number is even higher. With rising food and transportation costs, serving more people with less is challenging. But thanks to our incredible supporters, partners, donors and volunteers, we've been able to adapt and continue sharing food at no cost and working to boost long-term food security in 2024 and beyond. The level of food insecurity in New York City has increased significantly since the beginning of the pandemic. According to an analysis by Feeding America, the number of New York City residents struggling with food insecurity has risen by 36% overall and by 46% among children. We are grateful to our grantee partner City Harvest for responding to the crisis. They have rescued more than 1 billion pounds of nutritious food that would otherwise go to waste—working with restaurants, wholesalers, grocery stores, farms, and other partners— to distribute that food to individuals and families in need. Starting TODAY! The Chick-Fil-A at the Americana at Brand will be hosting another food drive benefiting Ascencia! Did you know that Ascencia has a Food Pantry? Many of our permanently housed clients are provided with groceries from our food pantry during a routine check by their Case Manager. Tote bags are with canned goods, rice, beans, cereal etc. and go a long way in supporting our clients’ day-to-day needs. According to a recent survey with Los Angeles (L.A.) County residents participating in the Understanding America Study show that food insecurity increased in 2023, with 3 in 10 (30%) households experiencing food insecurity. This is a 6 percentage-point increase from 2022, when rates were 24%. Please consider dropping off pantry items like cereal, pasta noodles, and canned goods at 807 Americana Way in Glendale, starting today July 22nd until Saturday, July 27th. All donations will benefit Ascencia’s clients! For every 3 unexpired items you bring in, you’ll receive a Chick-fil-A Digital Offer Card as a token of your appreciation. THANK YOU Chick-Fil-A at the Americana at Brand for helping ensure that no one goes hungry at Ascencia. #FoodDrive #GivingBack #LiftingPeopleOutOfHomelessness #FoodInsecurity

Food Insecurity is a Community Crisis! Our community is facing a food insecurity crisis. Oak Tree 9 will help educate, support, and raise awareness about the amazing work Guelph/Wellington charities do to help people in our community access the nutritious food they need to thrive. Guided by a panel of expert community judges who understand the social, economic and logistical challenges involved, we are inviting local charities to submit applications for our $20,000 grand prize. The money can be used to expand or create programming that will get healthy and nutritious food to those who need it. Building Community Through Food Security Food security is a simple concept that requires a lot of complex coordination. At its core, food security is having consistent, reliable access to safe and nutritious food that brings nourishment and joy. Food security needs a lot of systems (production, storage, distribution and retail) to work closely together. It also requires everyone to have the financial means they need to buy food that is meaningful to them. In addition to being a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal, and a basic human right, food security is a social, economic and environmental driver for our community. Like the other social determinants of health that The Oak Tree Project has explored, food security is an opportunity to build a more equitable, vibrant and resilient community. While it’s easy to overlook the importance of food security when it is not a personal challenge, it is a real barrier for many families to reach their full potential. According to recent data, as many as 1 in 4 children in Ontario lives in a food insecure household, and 18% of households in Guelph-Wellington identify as food insecure. Most of us likely know someone who worries about where their next meal will come from. #OakTreeProject #HopeHouseGuelph @oaktreeproject9
