Is what you’re posting on LinkedIn reaching the audience you hoped it would? Do you feel more connected to your real life community because of the time you spend sharing and engaging on LinkedIn? If you’ve been considering how your own LinkedIn presence could maximize your impact, this is the session for you. Join us this coming Tuesday to hear Tania Bhattacharyya share how building your online presence can help you achieve your mission.
If you’ve ever felt like a small fish in your community’s big philanthropic pond – this session is for you. Tania Bhattacharyya was once in your shoes. Her organization made transformative change happen. But too many of the movers and shakers in her community had no idea. Then she discovered this storytelling secret and used it to find new donors, get attention from the local media and get referrals (for new clients, volunteers, even board members!). In this session, Tania will share her storytelling tactics for using LinkedIn to create a bridge between your mission and the community you serve. You do such important work. And after this session, you’ll have a gameplan to leverage the power of LinkedIn’s platform – so your community notices. I promise I'll post about my actual job (we have a new video to share about Mainframe mod and GenAI!) but as summer winds to a close I wanted to share a charity opportunity related to Golf: https://lnkd.in/g2i6mqfG Ultimately this is about helping kids lead healthier lives and is related to the amazing work that Jack and Barbara Nicklaus have done across the world to help kids heal and thrive with their Play Yellow initiative. My Wife Ashley and her colleague Kelli are going to play 72 holes of golf in one day and they are going to make it rain birdies. If you have a bit of a gambling mindset, you can make a donation based on the number of birdies they're going to make. You can also make an up-front donation. Note that this is focused on Colorado - ask your local pro if something is happening near you! Why is this on LinkedIn? Two reasons - first - this is really the only social media I do. I do so little I don't know if this actually counts as social media. Second - having married a professional golfer I've learned a lot about golf that has surprised me. Watching Ashley and her friends and colleagues navigate a male-dominated world (5% of PGA professionals are women. 5%!) is in many ways a clearer lens to the same challenges we see in technology. The backlash we've seen in some pockets of the world against fostering inclusion - one person's opinion here - ignores the reality that a diversity of thought and opinion makes teams better. Here's a golf example - when you're taking a golf lesson, you are incredibly vulnerable and it can be intimidating - no single approach works for everyone. Finding a coach that resonates with you (and this can be especially hard for women coming to the game, or children wanting to learn) is critical to your experience. There is not a long line to draw between this phenomenon and what we see in technology as leaders, mentors and peers. Also, golf is fundamentally a game of integrity - I've seen remarkable examples of leadership and integrity on the course (look up "Sahith Theegala penalty" for an unbelievable example recently) and again it reminds me of all the things we try to do as leaders and professionals in business. I've always liked the phrase "integrity is what happens when no one is looking" and if golf can help me and others to model that, there's more to the game than I thought. Let me close by saying - for those in the Northern Hemisphere - enjoy the last gasps of summer, whatever brings you outside to do so!
On Tuesday, September 24th, I will be participating in the inaugural Colorado PGA Birdie Bash fundraiser event to raise funds for PGA REACH Colorado and Children's Hospital Colorado. I, alongside other Colorado PGA Professionals, will play 72 holes of golf in one day at The Ranch Country Club in an attempt to make as many birdies as possible! Please consider making a pledge per birdie to support these impactful organizations. YOUR GIFT MATTERS and will help us reach our goal of raising $110,000! To make a pledge, please visit: https://lnkd.in/gWWgpdNi

Join me in donating to an organization I love, Bay Area Urban Debate League! BAUDL offers debate programming for Black, brown and urban students across the Bay Area, equipping young people with critical skills and offering a platform for urban youth to participate in national dialogue. Your donation will help support programs that make a difference. Debate education is proven to increase high school graduation rates and achievement in both middle and high school. In a 2023 study on the impact of debate, a Harvard researcher concluded: “These results provide policymakers a rare promising program for reducing inequality in reading achievement, analytical thinking skills, and educational attainment among middle and high school students. Debate programs are cost-effective relative to other high-profile interventions and therefore have great potential for scalability.” BAUDL’s experience confirms these results—from 2020–2023, 100% of BAUDL seniors have graduated from high school. I hope you can join me and make a donation at baudl.org/donate-to-baudl!

#EngagedLibraries spread happiness. 👗👔 Lasting memories are made for teens at events like prom. But for some, not having anything to wear stops them from attending. Sacramento Public Library in California breaks those barriers by inviting donations of gently used suits, dresses, and formal accessories to its annual Prom Drive. During giveaway events each spring, teens browse the free collection and take home the perfect outfit. Instead of collecting dust in someone’s closet, donations have the potential to bring light to others. 📲 We want to know how your library connects for a cause. Share your story on social media and include #EngagedLibraries in your post. You could be featured in an upcoming issue of Abstracts, on our community engagement hub, in an upcoming blog or video, or across our social media channels. ⤵️ Click below to learn more about Sacramento’s Prom Drive. --- #OCLC #PublicLibrary #PublicLibraries #Library #Libraries #Librarian #Librarians #LibraryLife #LibraryLove

Did you know that Black communities receive only 1% of all community foundation funding, leaving them underfunded by $2 billion, according to the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy? We want to help raise awareness to the campaigns that are helping to bridge the gap in funding for Black-led nonprofits. We’ve compiled 5 helpful resources to boost your fundraising: Giving Gap, Givebutter, #Give828, YOUNG BLACK & GIVING BACK INSTITUTE, and BackBlack, all working to close funding gaps across the sector. Join us in raising awareness by tagging a Black-led organization and reposting this to help amplify these valuable resources. 💰🌱 #BlackPhilanthropyMonth #SupportBlackNonprofits #CommunityImpact #Philanthropy
