As the curtains close on International Women’s Month, it is timely to reflect on what the investment landscape is for women today. Our chief marketing officer Erika Chiang was on MONEY FM 89.3 to discuss the findings from our first-ever global study focusing on female users at moomoo and our sister brand, Futubull. The study surveyed 2,288 female users across five markets, including Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and North America (U.S. and Canada), delving into their investment behaviours and perspectives on market involvement. Check out Erika’s interview on MoneyFM to find out more about the key findings from the survey, including key factors impacting women’s investment decisions, their most favoured products and what makes an investment opportunity attractive for women. Erika also shared some key tips on how women can kickstart their investment journey, and how investing can be intuitive for women. A few weeks ago, our co-chair Debbie Wosskow, OBE was featured in SheerLuxe’s Business Edition. This interview is a must-read for anyone interested in investing, entrepreneurship, and building wealth. Here are some key takeaways: → The percentage of capital going to female entrepreneurs in 2021 went down to 1%. → Female-powered businesses deliver 35% better returns than male-led ones, representing a massive untapped economic opportunity. → Many women are unaware of the tax breaks available through schemes like the Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS) and the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS). → We're creating a funding pot powered by institutional capital. → Funds need incentives to hire and employ senior women. → We’re aiming to get more women supporting women through angel investments. 😤 Not only is VC-funding not an option for the majority of women and especially women of colour. This Angel investor news below absolutely *stinks* and is another example of sexism. 😔 Fact check: 2% of female founded businesses get funded by VC’s. 2%? It’s 2024 but also 1950. ‼️The adage/truism on VC funding: "Men get investment for their potential, while women get investment for their proven track record." is something that haunts me daily and reflects the very real perceptions and biases in startup funding and I believe it’s never going to go away. Not until full system change, we are stuck with our lot. Enraging. ❤️ Massive shout out to all the womxn founders out there who are managing to do it regardless. It’s unrelenting. #femaleentrepreneur #femalefounder #femaleleadership #womenintech #difficultwomen #femaleentrepreneurs #womxn #diversityandinclusion
❌Bad news for women in the UK: 🇬🇧For those not aware and watching the UK angel investment landscape, on Jan 31 new legislation will be put in place increasing the barriers to entry for women becoming angel investors. ➡️Now: investors on angel investing platforms have to earn over £100k. ➡️Jan 31: new legislation raises it to £170k. 😡Issue: This will disproportionally impact the size of the pool of female investors in the UK. Less female angels to invest in female founders, who because they only get 2% of VC money, rely heavily on angel funding. 📊 To understand the quantitative impact of these changes, Marla Shapiro from HERmesa Angel Syndicate and Roxane Sanguinetti from Alma Angels have analysed the data from the Survey of Personal Income 2020-2021 and across their networks of nearly 400 angels investors, and concluded that the changes to the Financial Promotion Exemptions will result in making early-stage investing in the UK more white, more male and more London-centric. See awesome table below. 💰Roxy Shamsolmaali Corby tagged me on a post by Grace Beverley on this which opened with ‘I spend a lot of time on here talking about the dire funding landscape for female founders.’ Sadly it’s a narrative we’re all accustomed to - and accustomed to seeing minimal change in. 🚺Grace put it perfectly: ‘This issue goes further than being an entrepreneur-specific issue. The data is there. Less female investors mean less investment in female-led companies, which means less women hired and therefore less money into the hands of women.’ 🤯Unfathomable decision by Government a lot of us are working to reverse urgently.

I used to introduce Barbara Stewart, CFA as "one of the world's leading researchers on women and finance." After today's white paper on women & alts, I need to change that: "Please meet Barbara...she is THE leading global researcher on women and finance!" For those who are not finance experts, here's why this paper is so important. Stocks and bonds (equities and fixed income) are the core of every portfolio. They are great...but tend to go up and down together (they are highly correlated.) Research shows that adding some other, alternative (hence "alts") asset class that is less correlated tends to enhance portfolio returns and lower risk at the same time. Things like private equity, art, wine, real estate, venture capital and more. In a previous white paper, Barbara found that women tend to have lower exposure to alts than men. This new white paper looks at that, how we can change that, and what kinds of alts have special interest and relevance for women! Kudos to Barbara, and the team at Kensington Capital Partners Limited who commissioned this important research paper. https://lnkd.in/gUkuPuSK
