#Budget2024 | Anvesha Paresh Thakker, KPMG India: ◾ The thrust towards #biobasedeconomy has been stepped up with announcement of new scheme on bio foundry, bio manufacturing, financial support for biomass aggregation machinery and mandates for #CBGblending. This should result in debottlenecking some of the constraints such as #biomass availability as well as provide new use cases for this sector to grow, for eg. bio based substitutes in industries such as polymers, pharmaceuticals etc. This not only provides income and growth opportunities for farmers but offers avenues for #decarbonisation to industries including promoting #regenerativeprinciples in #manufacturing. ◾ The budget has a strong focus towards decentralised opportunities such as #solarrooftop, #EVcharging which is aimed to create a step change in sector with a strong underlying theme of inclusion of households, SMEs, and youth in the #energytransition opportunities. A wider adoption of solar roof top is likely to be propelled by the scheme for 300 units free electricity every month for 1 crore household through roof top installations providing savings up to fifteen to eighteen thousand rupees annually. This alongwith the support towards manufacturing and charging infrastructure for EVs is likely to create #entrepreneurship opportunities for large number of vendors for supply and installation as well as employment opportunities for youth with technical skills in manufacturing, installation and maintenance. #KPMGBudgetLIVE

A stride towards sustainability: Acing the race for Green Hydrogens • This novel era, the notion of sustainability is contained in each facet of divergent realms encasing business, services, healthcare, even administration. An integral fragment, it has ornamented itself as a distinguished attribute for enterprises, planted on the premises that environmental preservation and climate sustainability precede economic affluence. • To support ecological and economical sustenance, both developed and developing countries have undertaken numerous initiatives maneuvered towards sustainability like those of green hydrogens, renewable energies and incorporation of developmental goals. • Lauded as the “fuel of the future”, Green Hydrogens are sourced from routes of energy comprising of solar and wind, by the operation of electrolysis. Hydrogens shaped by this process prompt less emissions and are able to power locomotives, automobiles and engineer various machines. However, significant hurdles must be overcome. Challenges Feedstock Availability: The limited availability of sugarcane, maize, and other feedstocks, along with competing demands, poses a significant challenge. Infrastructure Gaps: Inadequate infrastructure for ethanol production, storage, and distribution hinders efficient blending. Technological Barriers: The development of advanced biofuel technologies remains costly and not widely scalable. Regulatory Issues: Inconsistent policies and a lack of long-term incentives for private investment create additional obstacles. Government Initiatives To combat these challenges, the government has: Extended the Pradhan Mantri JI-VAN Yojana to support 2G ethanol from diverse feedstocks. Promoted the use of agricultural residues for ethanol, ensuring stable income for farmers and reducing stubble burning, a major source of air pollution.
