France has a great history in material science innovation - here’s an article I wrote for BI Foresight about where it stands today and which of its regions are driving that innovation now. It’s interesting to see how different countries are approaching technological innovation as an issue of sovereignty. France has a plan for sure.

Last week, Elia Group, DEME Group, Port of Antwerp-Bruges and Fluxys teamed up in an incredible ideation session, facilitated by Z_punkt The Foresight Company. We dove deep into discussing the significant trends currently shaping our world and speculated on how they might impact society by 2040. We have witnessed immense changes unfolding in just the past four years, from the global pandemic and geopolitical unrest to the rapid rise of electric vehicles, to a point where even Belgian politicians want to revert laws that they installed for this specific purpose. This realization provides a reminder of how quickly our lives and the world around us can evolve. So now think about what could happen in 16 years… And remember that next year, 2050 is as close to us as 2000. As a main take-away, as nicely stated by Maarten Konings, we should be aware of our bias. When talking about 2040, we might believe that we are making neutral assumptions. However, it is crucial to have persons from different sectors challenge them. This way, we can uncover potential flaws or significant biases that we may have overlooked. #EliaGroupInnovation
