Only 1 in 5 eligible voters cast their ballot in New Jersey’s last state election. Most of the decisions that affect our quality of life happen in our State Legislature. Our being engaged and casting that vote is key to a healthy democracy. We launch a new series today that helps navigate voting. Civic education is often taught in fourth grade and many of the details aren’t actionable at that age. This series aims to encourage our state residents to exercise their right to vote. Only New Jersey and Virginia have their state elections on years that alternate with federal elections. 2024 is a state election year for New Jersey and all of our legislative seats are up for election. In our last state election, only 27% of eligible voters cast theirs-and 11% of eligible voters in our state are not registered. Our team wanted to tackle this disparity-and created this series. Personally-I’m so proud they decided to tackle this! Consider sharing this series - as civic education is critical to a civil society.

Non-partisan voter-centric reformer, Workforce Development Advocate and proud Rotarian. #MyVoteMatters “Be more curious, and less certain!”
The lesson? The new "Alaska Model" has led to better outcomes for Alaskans! Better governing, better cooperation across party lines, better campaigning and better solutions! Is it perfect? No, but why Alaskans, who are mostly independent, would want to go backwards to a system of partisan primaries and plurality outcomes that would restrict their own voices does not make sense to me. #VoteNoOnMeasure2 #MyVoteMatters
Hear from three elected leaders in Alaska — 2 Republicans and 1 Democrat — on how #RankedChoiceVoting has improved elections, governance, and accountability to voters in their state! Shoutout Representative Mary Peltola, Senator Lisa Murkowski, and Alaska Senate President Cathy Giessel.

Winner-take-all voting paves the way for candidates to take elections with a minority of votes. Our leaders do not need a majority of Americans to vote for them, only one spoiler and enough venom in the campaign for a significant population of voters to rage-quit. One fix is RCV. Ranked choice voting is the simple act of ranking candidates in order of preference, instead of just selecting one. Candidates must build consensus and win at least 50% of the vote. This morning, the Fair Representation Act was reintroduced in Congress by Reps. Don Beyer (VA-8) and Jamie Raskin (MD-8). Please take a moment to review this legislation and write your representatives. (Here is a handy link that streamlines the process: https://p2a.co/ZraNU5n)
