Despite claims all Defence Housing meets the “Healthy Homes” standards, I have solid proof they in fact, do not. 3. The Government and NZDF can spin all it wants how it has recently invested $35 million into housing - realistically that’s doesn’t even touch the sides when the whole Defence Estate is $400 million behind in maintenance alone. 4. Also, they cannot rely on the “Homes For Families” programme as a defence for the shocking state of houses. It’s unfunded, relying on cash injections for each budget. And most of it is aimed at “modernising” up to 900 homes that have already been described as; “at the end of their useful life” and “not fit for purpose”. Most importantly, families are not surviving on NZDF wages. As the economy has slowed, so has attrition. Once the economy speeds up again, you can expect those attrition rates to soar again unless there is significant change.

For many, the term "NGO" may evoke images of dubious institutions, associated with unlawful activities, money laundering, religious conversions, driving agendas or fraudulent practices. It's understandable why some may hold such beliefs; a few fraudulent organizations have indeed tarnished the reputation of NGOs in the past. However, it's essential to recognize that these cases represent only a small fraction of the vast and diverse nonprofit landscape. The overwhelming majority of NGOs are driven by a sincere commitment to serving humanity, animals, and the environment. Their contributions to society are invaluable, enriching lives and communities in profound ways across various thematic areas. NGOs play a pivotal role in effecting positive change, often making significant impacts at the grassroots level. Entire villages and towns have benefited from their interventions, showcasing the transformative power of collective action and social responsibility. To those unfamiliar with the intricacies of the social sector, it's worth taking a moment to reflect on the remarkable contributions of NGOs. Upon deeper exploration, one will discover the myriad of good deeds happening all around, uplifting and empowering individuals and communities. Contrary to common belief, working in the social sector is far from depressing. In my personal experience, I have always found it profoundly fulfilling. The positive energy and sense of purpose derived from making a difference are unparalleled. Moreover, the social sector builds connections with like-minded individuals, creating a network of change-makers and a highly positive sphere of influence: Satsangatve Nissangatvam! As we commemorate World NGO Day, let's celebrate and support the invaluable work of NGOs. #india  Policy formulation remains the foray of experts or the beaurucrats and the professionals working in the  administrative structure, managing and exercising controls in different domains in a pre-defined area. Policies  are known to have wider and deeper implications on the working and welfare of the communities covered by the said policies. Accordingly, public  policies have to be made with care and caution, so as not to adversely impact the communities in general and women/weaker/vulnerable sections of society in  particular. Making of public policy must include empowering communities and promoting community welfare,based on equity, making optimum use of available resources and bridging gap between haves and havenots.
