What. A. Rush. And an honor. A true, true honor to be the keynote speaker at last week’s West Virginia Nonprofit Association Leadership Summit. I was humbled to present, workshop, and network with a terrific group of conference attendees and fellow speakers. During my keynote address, I discussed the challenges nonprofits face when stuck in the battles of everyday operation instead of running as a sustainable business.
For anyone who works in or with or supports a not-for-profit organization, it is easy to see the telltale signs: staff are exhausted, people don’t want to volunteer, and donors aren’t confident in the organization. That’s a problem, because nonprofits fill important gaps in our communities. By focusing on business, not battle, organizations can truly create a successful organization.
During my session, I ran through some of the most vital aspects of getting your nonprofit mission-focused. Attendees were able to:
- Learn the how to identify common battles nonprofits face that hinder success
- Discover easy to implement strategies for creating mission focus
- Learn how to use advocacy for their nonprofit to build momentum
- Walk away with four thoughtful questions to ignite positive change
- Jump start change to create a mini culture shift
A BIG thank you to conference organizers, Hilaria Swisher, and attendees for the warm welcome, meaningful conversation, and delightful discussion! Go Mountaineers!
