Today I'll be wrapping up my video series on Gestalt Design principles for nonprofits. Over the last week, I have covered the topics of : 🔸 Proximity 🔸 Closure 🔸 Similarity 🔸 Figure and ground 🔸 Continuity 🔸 Simplicity I've tried to cover these topics with the smallest time, and simplest explanation using Instagram reels and custom animations. A peek into the thinking behind our naming and identity work for MiSide: Initially inspired by the abbreviation MI (for Michigan) to drive regional relevance, the name "MiSide" (pronounced “My Side”), projects confidence, warmth, positivity and personal ownership. It also alludes to the compassionate care and support the organization offers across its services. Crucially, “MiSide” created an opportunity to brand the four pillars (or “sides”) of the network’s services – MiWealth, MiHealth, MiHousing, and MiEarlyYears – and inspired simple, ownable headline constructs that could be deployed across communications. The MiSide visual identity celebrates community icons coming together to make a difference. It pays homage to the past while looking forward to a shared future. The logo is composed of shapes merging to form a holistic mark, with each shape representing one of the four brand programs. This unique combination forms an abstract monogram that’s fresh, clean and instantly recognizable. 𝑨 𝒄𝒂𝒔𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒚 𝒄𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝒖𝒑 𝒐𝒇 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑺𝒐𝒅𝒊𝒖𝒎 & 𝑪𝒐 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒅𝒐 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁: The Well 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗳: The charity had a logo, but lacked a consistent visual identity for their brand. They wanted a brand that communicated their mission and values in a clear and impactful way. The solution: We created a brand identity that incorporated water shapes and lines to symbolise the refreshing and life-giving nature of The Well's work. The brand identity was implemented across various communication platforms, including social media, print and digital. The colour palette of navy, blue, light blue, and grey was chosen to convey a sense of calm and trust, while the water elements added a dynamic and refreshing touch to the design. For the website design, we created a user-friendly interface that emphasised the charity's mission and made it easy for visitors to learn more about how they could get involved. The print design included flyers and posters that showcased the charity's brand identity and provided a clear call-to-action for donations and volunteer opportunities. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀: Through this rebranding effort, The Well was able to communicate their mission and values more effectively and gained greater visibility and recognition in the community.
