Great news for solving the climate crisis and accelerating carbon capture globally, as Aker Carbon Capture joins forces with SLB 🙌 According to the IEA, there are now more than 40 commercial capture facilities in operation globally, with a total annual “capture capacity” of more than 45m tonnes of CO2 (MtCO2). This capacity can be compared with annual global CO2 emissions that are nearly 1,000 times larger, at an estimated 37bn tonnes of CO2 (GtCO2) in 2023. Put another way, CCS facilities currently capture one tenth of one percent of global CO2 emissions. To put this in perspective: Thist means completing at least 4 new CCS plants with ~1 MtCo2/yr capacity every week until 2050. Hopefully now we are one step closer!

Aker Carbon Capture announces agreement to form Joint Venture with SLB. Combining the respective #CarbonCapture businesses will support accelerated industrial decarbonization at scale.  Bringing together complementary technology portfolios, leading process design expertise and an established project delivery platform, the partnership will leverage ACC’s commercial carbon capture product offering and SLB’s new technology developments and industrialization capability.  “The decision to combine ACC and SLB’s carbon capture business is underpinned by a strategic vision that reflects our commitment to accelerate the industrial adoption of carbon capture,” said Egil Andre Fagerland, Chief Executive Officer, ACC. “By partnering with SLB, we will become a diversified, global carbon capture player. Our combined suite of technologies and global reach will make a platform positioned to profitably scale faster, to the benefit of customers, employees and shareholders.” The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close by end of Q2 2024. https://lnkd.in/dAuA3twf
