The Ontario government's announced $1.3 billion in funding for post-secondary institutions, aiming to address financial challenges resulting from the federal cap on international students. Officials from Fleming College and Trent University welcome the funding but emphasize the need for more details and additional support. While Trent University acknowledges the benefits of the announced funds, students remain cautious, expressing concerns about underlying issues like food insecurity and housing. Peterborough Mayor Jeff Leal sees the funding as a potential stabilizing factor for the city, emphasizing the contributions of educational institutions to the local economy and diversity. https://lnkd.in/gmsQnq63 #university #college #nimbuslearning

Empowering institutions to engage and convert international applicants | Building Student Direct | Former Director of International Student Recruitment at Fanshawe College
Interesting development in Ontario today! The Ministry of Colleges and Universities has just announced a substantial $1.3 billion funding support for Colleges and Universities. While this marks a step forward, it's important to note that it falls short of the recommended $2.5 billion outlined in the Blue Panel Report. For further details, refer to the official news release: (https://lnkd.in/ggQiiNsf). Notably, amidst this announcement, there's a mention of applied master's programs in Colleges. If this materializes, it could have a profound impact. Reflecting on past initiatives, the introduction of the 3-year bachelor's program in Ontario was anticipated to be a game-changer a couple of years ago, but its impact is yet to be seen. This development is a must-watch for those invested in the Ontario post-secondary landscape. #OntarioEducation #HigherEdFunding #AppliedMastersPrograms #internationaleducation Student Direct

University workers and academics are facing an existential crisis due to high workloads and stress levels. It's crucial to take care of those who do the work, especially when it comes to investing money in the right places. Having worked in a regional university, I saw firsthand the importance of teaching regional students. Unfortunately, bad investment and propping up the wrong research were the norm, which ultimately hurt the hardworking individuals who are the backbone of our universities. No wonder the Gof8 are nervous. Let's hope that recommendations lead to positive change for the higher education sector. Aim for 70% tertiary education takeup by 2040, say UK university chiefs: Vice-chancellors say universities ‘essential to economic growth’ and that maintenance grants should be restored Ministers should aim for 70% of young people to continue their education after leaving school by 2040, while tuition fees in England should be increased, according to the leaders of UK’s universities. The “blueprint for change” published by Universities UK (UUK), which represents vice-chancellors, wants the 70% target to be supported by grants paid to disadvantaged students and a new “tertiary education opportunity fund” for areas with low rates of university and college enrolments. While reducing costs for students may be attractive politically, making higher education more affordable to those who can least afford it via improved SUSI grants and providing core funding to ensure our universities continue to provide world class education and research should be the priorities if choices must be made
Abolishing college fees not a priority if returned to Government, say Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil
