FedEx Corp on Wednesday said its U.S. Express deliveries could be delayed due to an overnight Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) information technology system outage. The FAA said that departures were stopped briefly on Tuesday night due to an equipment issue that occurred during a scheduled software update. Shipments delayed due to the outage are not eligible for a refund or credit. FedEx competitor United Parcel Service (UPS) said that its flights have been operating as expected with nothing to report regarding delays. #FedEx #UPS #FAA #UnitedExpress #SoftwareUpdate #Refunds #Flights #networksecurity #networkforensics #threatintelligence #threatintel #darkweb #securityoperations #informationtechnology Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e_HuWB2i

Let's talk about what happened last Friday. A single faulty software update caused a global IT outage that sent shockwaves through the entire supply chain. Over 2,000 flights were canceled, even more were delayed, and ports were stalled. Luckily here at Excel Courier, we weren't directly impacted but weren't immune. We saw airport deliveries within our usual range (IAD, DCA, RIC, and BWI) get sidelined as air cargo shipments hit a snag. Thankfully, our team is built for these kinds of unexpected bumps in the road. We pride ourselves on being a reliable same-day courier service in the DMV, and that means having a plan B (and sometimes a C and D) ready to go. While the skies were a bit clearer than usual on Friday, our team was busy on the ground, exploring alternative routes and leveraging our network of trusted partners. The IT outage is a stark reminder of just how interconnected everything is these days. A problem on one side of the world can ripple outwards, impacting businesses and customers everywhere. That's why we believe being proactive is essential and has helped prepare us in finding solutions when disruptions like these hit. This event served many valuable lessons but one being – the world of logistics is fragile, complex, and sometimes, even the best plans need to be adjusted on the fly. #courier #Microsoft #logistics #outage #supplychain https://hubs.li/Q02Hsr0t0

📣 Exciting news in the shipping industry! UPS has secured a significant air cargo contract with the United States Postal Service, expanding their partnership. Following a transition period, UPS will become the primary air cargo provider for USPS, marking a shift from FedEx. With a minimum five and a half year agreement, UPS will handle the majority of air cargo for USPS, emphasizing their commitment to efficient logistics. As USPS focuses on cost reduction, this move aligns with their strategy to transition from air to ground transportation. While global air cargo demand continues to rise, this collaboration positions UPS at the forefront of the evolving logistics landscape. Helping Shippers Reduce Their Parcel Expenses Through Contract Negotiations, Invoice Audit & Operational Optimizations
Sounds like there are some pretty significant headwinds for FedEx and its Air Express unit in 2024... - FedEx expects its air express unit will lose half of its business with the USPS when an existing contract expires (September 30, 2024) -USPS three years ago began shifting a large amount of volume from air to ground transportation to reduce red ink and become more competitive -The drop in postal traffic contributed to a 6% decline in revenue for the Express unit, which is struggling with lower profits -“The problem is that the current FedEx Express line-haul network is designed to support historically high USPS volume that is going away, and that USPS revenue subsidizes the operational cost of overall FedEx lift operations here in the U.S.” https://lnkd.in/eN7Gr4Cd

Big NEWS for Shippers: The US Postal Service is ending a 20-year partnership with FedEx--and UPS was just announced as their new primary air cargo provider. USPS was FedEx's largest customer of air-based Express services and it supported the USPS Priority Mail and other quick delivery options. The current USPS/FedEx contract is set to expire on September 29, 20204, and the switch to UPS may have an effect on pricing and scheduling in view of changing capacities. FedEx's network is poised for a shakeup after its United States Postal Service contract expires. Here's the most likely change: Daytime flights will be a prime target for reductions as a result of the contract loss to rival UPS. Barclays analysts say FedEx runs up to 100 daytime flights to support Postal Service volume, operations that cost the company an estimated $3 billion annually. The company could cut 50% of its daytime flight capacity and save $1.5 billion in the process, they added. If FedEx goes down that path, what happens to packages from other shippers on eliminated flights? They could be transported via linehaul to another air cargo gateway nearby, Derek Lossing told me. Another important factor to consider: What happens to FedEx pilots? The "overstaffed" group will likely be thinned out, according to the scheduling committee chair for FedEx's pilots union. (They still don't have a new contract in place, by the way...) How do you expect FedEx's network to change once the Postal Service contract expires? Adjusting to your longtime largest customer leaving is certainly no easy task. Let me hear your thoughts! https://lnkd.in/e998piTM #supplychain #delivery #logistics
